I'm looking for a thread of monstrous double yolk eggs. Purely for posting a pic of an egg I collected yesterday. I've had a plethora of double yolks in the past but this one must have really hurt. Topped out my largest egg scale at 105g. That's 3.7 ounces!
I collected one like that a couple weeks ago. My poor bantam hens - one of them laid something that was at least and XL. The Large egg containers wouldn't hardly shut on it. Egg on the right is a store bought Grade A Large egg for comparison. when we cracked it, it had two beautiful large orange yolks in it.

MORNING ALL!!!

Ok, I have a drs. appt tomorrow afternoon. So, I just went ahead and pretty much am locking down tonight. I won't be turning tomorrow, but may open the bator in the morning to add, or take away a sponge. We'll see how it looks in the morning. I had to toss three..not sure on a few, and am scared to death of some of them. I don't mark the air sacs until I lock down, so I can see how I want to set them.
Here's an example of how so many of them are..some are on both sides..saddles...will be watching them closely. I put the real bad ones in a separate bator, in case I have some start hatching, others don't even pip..then I usually check the others. This picture shows one side way up high on the side, that chick is very much alive!
You're not alone. I have at least 3 like that.

For the guess how many eggs will hatch.. Do I have to look through all 35+ pages to make sure my number isn't taken...

?
If you go to page 1 of this thread everyones guesses are there on the chart. You can't see them, you have to scroll right, but they're there!

Okay... Chicken in a cup... The other struggler just lays on its tummy unable to stand.... Leg brace of some kind?

How do I help the one who is tilting its head ALL the way back? Nothing in that orthopedics article that I can find...

Look up "wryneck" or "stargazing." The very first chick I ever hatched had it and sad to say she lasted a week and then it was too much for her and she passed away.

Another quick question... I had shipped eggs come late, and were set on Wednesday (so, 4 days after the Saturday set date). In my last hatch I had eggs that were set 3 days late (also shipped), I put them into lockdown with the rest. Everything seemed to go well and 5/8 hatched. But, is 4 days early too early for lockdown? It also makes it hard to put them into the hatcher because my other eggs *might* not be done hatching. I have duck eggs in the incubator, so I can't really use that has a hatcher as well. What would you do??

HOWEVER I strongly believe sending them sideways is an issue!
Why? because if you have ever taken an egg and tried to shake it and dislodge the air cell with brutal force you will find it takes ALOT OF FORCE.
Arm tiring force! HOWEVER the tiny non stop jostling's on the road will work that air cell loose and cause it to roll to the most upper part of the egg.
look at this image to understand what I am explaining. WE ALL KNOW THE IMPORTANTS OF EGGS being FAT END UP for positioning reasons as well!
My two cents lol
