I can't call my peaking hen a freeloader anymore! I had given up on checking to see if she was laying and she snuck 8 eggs over on us.

I'm not going to hatch them, even though I'm pretty sure they're fertile. I'll let her do it. And on that note, does anyone know what a peaking/mallard cross would look like? I know next to nothing about cross breeding ducks, so I don't know what to expect.

Striking COLORS!

I just love me some feathered feet. And really love cochins for all their extra fluffiness.

Ugh anyone in GA having egg laying problems? I have been getting one egg out of nine hens every 2-3 days. I'm used to getting 3-4 eggs a day. Tried Cayenne pepper with no change in egg laying. Birds are healthy no mites or worms. I added electrolytes to their water to give them an extra boost during this weird weather. Its cold on sunny days and warm on rainy days. What in the world. Any pointers to help get these girls back to laying regular again?
I am right there with you DURR. I have 23 hens. Yesterday I got 2 eggs! 2! My 3 cochin girls were moved to a different coop 4 weeks ago and haven't laid an egg since. The marans next to them are also holding out. I think they are either very eggstapated or on strike. I have no clue what is going on with the other 15 girls though. They need to get busy. I am averaging 4-6 eggs from them a day right now and that is significantly lower than the 10 - 12 I get in summers. All of them are healthy, their combs are bright red...something has to explode sooner or later.

Rooster booster dry measurements pleases, the container states 1 oz to 16 gallon, what does that mean for one gallon
Where do you get rooster booster? Is that its actual name?

oh its not a new variation! It happens its all genetics and 100% from tailed serama..... I am researching and coming up pretty much empty handed!!
I found on Wikipedia that there is a rumpless serama that occurs. Some people are breeding them to see if the variant will follow through to ther generations. If you planned to keep the breed pure, then they are just decorations.

here is a link to a frizzled rumpless serama

A word of caution here. the Peking duck are very poor brooders and are normally incubated. The "broodiness has all breed out of them. Just like most modern day laying hens. Although there will be a few exceptional birds that will attempt it. Most of these quit after a week or two. I would recommend keeping a close eye on her and an incubator warmed up and ready to go.

mstricer..ok, I'm on a roll, had some more fun..this befunky is the easiest. It will ask you where you want it saved.

I hatched these little cuties from dfdesigns OE's!
