Yes, all trees do have sap, and yes, it is clear, but only maples have enough sugar content to make it worth boiling down. Even then it takes over 40 GALLONS of sap to make 1 gallon of Maple Syrup!!!
Well maybe 1/6 of a gallon is doabe from one tree or 2... 2.5 gal? How much can you get out of one tree?

Not sure but that kind-of sounds like a blood ring to me. I think that means the embryo has died.

Sometimes a GOOD veined egg can look like a blood ring. I had it happen Vein went across the egg iwassure it was a blood ring...nope it grew and hatched
Dont throw them out too quickly
I always wait until day 17 Its pretty clear if you have something developing then.
. Whatever day you are on ...mark the egg with a pencil and see if in a week it has grown bigger than your pencil mark.GOOD LUCK!

From this site... http://www.employees.csbsju.edu/ssaupe/biol327/Lab/maple/maple-sap.htm

"Why maple?
Spring sap production is a relatively rare phenomenon, and occurs in the maples (genus Acer) and just a few others. So, what it is about maple? According to Dr. Mel Tyree (2001) the distribution of sap and gas in maple stems is the critical factor. Species like sugar maple and butternut (Juglans cinerea) that have air-filled fiber cells and water-filled vessels will exude sap. In contrast, species that do not exude sap, such as willow (Salix), aspen (Populus), elm (Ulmus), ash (Fraxinus) and oak (Quercus), have gas-filled vessels and water-filled fibers.

So, it is likely that you have a maple if it is running a lot of sap right now.

I would just do a search on backyard maple syrup production. There are a lot of great sites out there that are very helpful! Here is a good one to get you started - Backyard Maple Syrup Production

Wow, that's a lot of sap to make syrup.

We got baby goats today!!  Taffy is one of our nubians and had quads!!  Three made it and are looking good... First babies of the year so Spring must be here!!  We have more goats and pigs to come and of course just a few chickens and turkeys.. LOL
