Here you go Cynthia! Not as striking as your lovely dk brown (Marans?) against those Olive green eggs, but still makes a good show!

Oh yes it is..it's huge! Who laid that egg? I always think, poor hen.

I am not sure - I was just thinking I should check all the hens out there (there are 32 in this coop) to see if anyone has a prolapse or other problem from such a huge egg!

My first guess would be an older (almost 3 yrs) Black Star hen that we have - it looks like her shade of egg color and she has been known to do a few weird eggs in the past. She has a terrible attitude though and because of her age (and other reasons), she is probably going on the cull list this fall.

Hi there Canadian members/all....Saw a mention of Canadian hatchers in a group....can someone post the link???I've got 42 entered in the Hatch-a-long but, would like to touch base with some members that live close to me. I'm near Peterborough , on Rice Lake. 1 1/2 hour from Toronto and 2 1/4 hour from Kingston.....I have Jersey Giant roo and 6 pullets , Aracana roo and  20 hens , rest are (25) assorted brown egg layers.....Also have ducks, geese ,guinea fowl and (a wee flock of self suffient bantam game .....they free range.....summer and winter..)
Hey bud, don't think I'm far from you! I'm about 1/2 hour away, just before Port Perry. Are your JGs black or white? I have some hatchery stock & some sex links, and some mutts. Going to get more hatchery stock in other breeds coming end of April. I'll be starting fresh in 2014 with breeder stock.

My JG are black ..large and beautiful !!!! Hatched late last summer from high quality eggs ....the sire of these hatchlings was bought from show stock...i'm just lucky to have gotten some eggs...now don't know what to do with these birds. They are so much larger than my regular girls that I'm going to have to create a new pen.....yikes.....The roo is far to heavy to be around my other girls ...how do you say " squish " hehe

We find eggs this size all the time from my uncle's flock. They are always right next to a regular size egg of the same color. And they never have yolks.

Here is the egg beside an Extra Large egg (2.25oz), a Large egg (2.00oz) and a large bantam egg (1.50oz)...

The pictures don't do it justice! LOL!
One of my Marans laid one like that last year. He very first egg too. I felt so bad for her for pushing that huge thing out and then though "Hey, I've given birth to a lot of humans! That egg would have been a breeze!"

Did I start the turner problems in here?? I was up all night the night before the hatch after mine smashed some eggs already in there. I really need to find a permenent solution for mine. I have had this happen several times.
