Cots are holding back on the eggs. Then again these are the youngsters so I'm waiting to see if they cough them up.

In the meantime

Maybe I should raise these

Woo hoo!! Got to play dress up with my chickens! I did a crown for our princess hen, and for our rooster. :) My kids came home and pretty much rolled their eyes at me and said "mom's turning the chickens into live barbies". :) He He He... Yup!

I stared both crowns with a pile of what I call "toybox trash"... anything that settles at the bottom of the toybox & is pretty much junk. I used scissors & hot glue for everything.

For the Hen:

From the pile I used a milk cap ring, some junk thin clear plastic (what my computer mouse came in), and an old barbie dress.

I used the milk ring as the base, wrapped & trimmed the plastic around it to form a "princess cone"... hot glued into place:

I cut up the barbie dress (which had a print satin, a netting, and a ribbon... perfect!), and covered the cone with the satin. Added the veiling on the top, and lined it with the ribbon along the bottom. More hot glue...

Finished product:

And now being modeled by our Barred Rock hen "Omelet" (& my daughter). She's actually the hen that donated the eggs for our hatch-a-long!... so we'll be seeing her babies later.

Beautiful!!

I went to chick days today.
The lady asked me how many I wanted, I said 4 of each (polish and bantam asst.).

she went to write it down and said, 'wait, how many of each?' 6 of each!
she wrote that down for polish. Then she said, how many for the bantams? 8! I only meant to get 8 in all, but i walked out with 14.

everytime she asked.. i raised my answer. HAHA!!
at the end it was like, you know what? Let me just take them all home :)

Sure...big misunderstanding there right? Uh hu...

update on my broody - she did great - 5 out of 7 hatched! i did the float test on the last two. Not sure what happened to them... they looked fully developed, but didnt make it all the way to the end for some reasoon... Anyway - here are the 5 that hatched... super cute!

OHHHH and BTW - In all of the posts I have read about broodies sitting on eggs and them not moving and such NO ONE NO WHERE posted how after they finally hatch - they do thier "business" that they have been holding onto for (what looks like ) 21 days!!

HAHA - i took the biggest poop out of her box I have ever seen.

I thought it was another chick at first!!!!!

LOL..I've seen poo like that before with the broody's ~ She had to be relieved after that one. Those ARE super cute babies..happy for you!

I think tonight I'm finally going to pull my quitter, bloodring, and clear from my duck eggs. Ducky is young so I didn't expect too much, but two developing is much better than I expected. I guess you could say I had 4 developing since it has to start to bloodring or quit. I have 3 eggs from my spoiled game pullet and as far as I can tell right now, 2 of the 3 are developing. She's the only pullet I have in my white game project, but I think I may have another since the white chick I have isn't looking like a roo yet.

2+2=4... I'm so proud of myself. Did I do that right..you have 4 viable chicks/ducks..eggs? Something like that. :D

I am beside myself. I have 51 eggs in 2 LG's. One LG has a tuner and fan the other is still. The one with the turner reads 100 in one corner and 94 in the other. I can actually feel the difference in temp of the eggs. This is only the fourth time I have used the LG. I see some veining in a few eggs from different areas. It seems the eggs in the still air are doing better. I have FOUR new accurite therms...I don't know what else to do...Does anyone ever have this much trouble with an LG? I want to cry.
Rarebear---- sorry I may be jumping in late, but in case no one was able to help out, I did n't want to leave you guessing.

LG fluctuate a lot. THat's normal for the LG. I hand turn to avoid some of this. Perhaps you can rearrange the eggs periodically. RIsky to move them, I know, perhaps rotate the cover! I have roated the cover when I thought it would even out the effects of the temps.

Good luck!!
