I put 12 eggs in the incubator on monday (3/11). Can I still join? I'm not sure how many will make it, because it's my first hatch, and I feel like I've made lots of mistakes already. :/. I guess it 's a learning experience..... I have a candling question. When I candle my eggs I don't see any kind of air cell, am I missing something? I do see a dark area, that "floats" around when I turn the egg. I'm on day 3, good, or bad?

The dark area is the yolk. It will float to the top. What color are your eggs? Unless they are white you probably won't see much at day 3, maybe around 7 days or so.

They are brown and blue, both are pretty dark. That's good to know, I was worried.

IF I candle, it usually isn't until day 10 or 12, because I don't trust my understanding of what I see and would hate to toss out anything early that might actually develop and hatch. I also don't like disappointment and would rather be disappointed only ONCE at the conclusion of the hatch.

I went against the 10 day candling rule and I candled 2 eggs one I say the little guy doing the happy dance really well and the other I saw good vein net work, will wait and candle the rest at day 10, this was really good for day 5, I was pleasantly surprised.

Anyone else tempted by the chicks and ducklings at tsc? We went in today to grab a couple things and I could hear the chicks and ducklings in the back from the front of the store. I was SO tempted to snatch up some lol so cute I just felt bad that the bins were so full the chicks had really no room to even move.

How long are they kept in the bins for? What happens to those that don't get sold? Sorry for the questions - just wondering!

I candled a couple last night... I think the battery is dying in my torch, but I tried anyway. There was definitely the blurriness indicative of development in some shipped eggs. Nothing like that in my own, though Fingers crossed my torch just wasn't picking it up...

Going to be getting some show quality Rhode Island Red hatching eggs soon. . He has some really nice birds. Gorgeous ones. Getting excited about them. More eggs to incubate
