The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

Brook, candled tonight, had to throw one out. I can see I am going to have to help some chicks out if they make it to hatch. There are some air sacs clear up the side..and I mean way up the side, and very wide! There are three that I am worried about even making it because of how the air sacs are. You never know though, sometimes, with help, they make it. Some make it on their own if the air sacs aren't too high, and the rest of them aren't as bad, but they all have the air sacs going up quite a bit. Crossing fingers.

I had to get rid of a few tonight. Blood rings. No air sacs...8 in total. Some were questionable, will wait for day 10 on those.

I'm in the March Hatch A Long..I have 8 eggs I'm hatching for someone that are going into lock down tomorrow. Will be fun to see what they turn out to look like with daddy being a NN. One hen is a RIR..and there are some silkie eggs, but there is a buff dad silkie, with a blue splash and a white showgirl. Ooo, crossing my fingers on the showgirl. Either way, NN or Silkie as dad. :D Then a couple of eggs are from an Exchequer Leghorn! Ha, NN, and Exchequer leghorn! It will be that mix too..for sure.

This little guy hatched at 12:16 am this morning!!!!! First baby I hatched! :D

Whatever day of the week you set your eggs on is the same day you can expect them to start hatching. (Sometimes earlier. Sometimes later.) We set eggs at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 9th so our hatch day (Day 21) is Saturday, March 30th. Another way to look at it is in hours. Saturday, 3/9 at 12pm is 0 hours. 3/10 at 12am is 12 hours and 12pm on 3/10 is 24 hours. 24 hours = 1 day or Day 1 of incubation. When you read or hear "lock down or stop turning" on Day 18 it means after the full 24 hours of Day 18 has gone by you stop turning. So that would mean that Day 18 ends on Wednesday morning 3/27 @ 11:59am. Day 19 starts @ 12:00pm Wednesday and lockdown begins. Day 20 starts @ 12pm on Thursday and Day 21 starts @ 12pm on Friday and ends on Saturday @ 11:59am. So on Saturday at 11:59am you have had 21 days (each consisting of 24 hours) of full development.
it takes 504 hrs

It's 5 am here in Farmer City, IL and I'm up.... So, I decided it was prime time to get caught up on BYC. Boy, this thread moves fast. I pick up my Silver Ameraucanas today. So excited. Looking forward to working on that little project.

My Brinsea shipped out yesterday, so that should be here in a few days.

That's going to be the hard part. I am not a patient person by nature (just ask my husband lol)

We are making a stop at TSC today. Can I resist the urge to purchase little fuzzlebutts??? We will see....

Well, time to check my other threads. Everyone have a great day.

The PO must have really done a number on the box then. I have Araucana eggs that I had shipped in for this hatch and I have the same thing going on. I snuck a quick look at 2 of them on Wednesday and they both had very loose air cells. I stopped candling because I was sick over what I was seeing. That was only day 4 so I am hoping that when I start turning today they are better than they were on Wednesday.
