Yesterday it was windy and snowing. Nothing was sticking so I thought I would be safe....I woke to this

So now I am with the rest of you....

Darn it! Another one of my OE's went broody. Funny thing is I have this goose that likes to lay her eggs in the chicken coop. Well as luck would have it she has laid about 7 eggs or so in there so I just left them hoping she will get broody and hatch them. Then a couple days ago while collecting eggs I see my new broody on the goose eggs! What the heck I say to myself and chased her off of them. Well, Yesterday as I am going to feed the birds mid afternoon I hear a ruckus in the coop. I go in there and I see my goose yelling at the broody who is on her eggs and will not move and is yelling back and puffing up so mean and fierce like to the goose. I chuckle to myself pick her up and set her in a nest box. Being stubborn like women can be( Yes I said it) she immediately jump out and goes after the goose! So to make her happy and stop the ridiculous fighting I say what the heck she wants some eggs so be it. I grabbed 6 of the goose eggs and set them in a nest box and put her on top of them. She settled right down on them and the goose jumped on her nest to lay another egg. All is right in the coop again! That makes three broodies so far this spring! one already hatched some and is running the yard with 7 chicks, another in isolation with a clutch that I gave her from my incubator because she wouldn't quit that are due to hatch on Friday, and now another in the main coop with a clutch of goose eggs.

Lol this is exactly what's happened here. We actually had some gorgeous weather at the beginning of March and suddenly it's winter again. It's not too bad, though, because the days are still getting longer, so it's actually nicer than true Winter.

Too cute a story. What is that red girl on the goose eggs anyway? A sexlink? I didn't know they went broody. I guess that all hens .. can..go broody. Just wondered...she was one determined mom. )

One of my cockerels has moved to a community farm down the road. Lucky him. He was dinner, but now he's lucky! Lots of Ixworth girls all to himself.

Yes Miley is a macaw. He loves being outside. He talks to the chickens but they only listen they never talk back. He says Aflac to the ducks but they don't understand. Lol. Guess he watches too much tv! Lol

I like to crochet as well - I do blankets, but never thought of doing towels. Miley is beautiful.

It was fun watching the ducks slide around on their bellies in the snow though.

Who had the time to tie dye chickens?

This is my third spring of hobby hatching, but it is my first experience with a power failure. The storms across Alabama left us without power for almost three days. I managed on solar for a day, then switched to generator. But on the third day, the three bators went without power for three hours, and even though they were wrapped, they got down to about 83 degrees. Now it is hatching day for bator #1, and not a peep or pip. I'm not totally freaked out yet, but I can feel it coming.

They will be fine. Remember that a broody will get off of eggs for hours at a time. I had a hatch go through 3 separate power outages and I still had a good number hatch.

This was the road to the chickens on Sunday. It's normally a relatively busy road (a shortcut from the main road into the city), but as you can see, not many people were able to use it.

Beautiful! I bet it's even more gorgeous in the spring and fall.
