I read a post from someone that does staggered hatching in a cabinet incubator. Wait until you see a pip and then raise the humidity. After the hatch, let the humidity go back down. The increase in humidity for the hatch does not hurt the incubating eggs.

Thank you was wondering about that myself. I have never staggered hatches before this year. Thought I'd experiment with it. I have a Dickie bator. atch a Saint Patty hatch now this Easter Hatch due the 30th.
really was wondering how the humidity ups and downs would effect the following hatch. Thank for answering my thoughts.

I really just want to separate my eggs from the shipped eggs. I just wanted to make sure they would have enough room to move around in while the zip!

Wow thats really interesting! I read somewhere before about the conical eggs on a cliff, It was about seagulls laying on ocean cliffs and how eggs wouldn't roll off. I never knew they came out blunt end first, but now your explanation makes so mucch sense.Thanks, this was very interesting.

Who had the time to tie dye chickens?
They will be fine.  Remember that a broody will get off of eggs for hours at a time.  I had a hatch go through 3 separate power outages and I still had a good number hatch.

If you set eggs on the 9th, Tomorrow is Lockdown!

Since I cheated and set a day early, I'll be locking down today. My kids think I was a nice mommy buying them a big carton of strawberries at the store yesterday. They don't know I wanted the container to hatch in.

Now I gotta empty. it out.

Two questions about lockdown. I have half my eggs in one still incubator that have been sitting in egg cartons, with daily turning but the pointed side down. Should I allow them to hatch in that position in the eggs carton? The rest of the eggs are in a LG with turner and and fan. How should they be placed for lock down? Should I place them on their sides in the still air with the others or should I take the turner out of the obe they are in and leave them on the screen with the fan? I would appreciate help very much!

For those of you hatching in baskets or whatever...  I have some taller tupperware type containers... will those work?  or should they be "holey" on the sides... for ventilation?

I don't know honestly... I got these baskets cause they were cute and cheap and the right size

Got a dozen! Two are pipped and three are not... Snuck a quick peek at the silkie when I took the last three out and I can see breathing and teensy movement. I know it's alive.... I'm scared it won't pip!

Candled again on Sunday night - down to 45 in the bator, 3 under broodies. Set my African Goose eggs, but now my old incubator won't keep temp

- must take a lot more energy to keep those suckers warm! Lockdown is on Thursday. Gonna build a bigger brooder out of old windows today so I can shift batches of peeps around.

I just have to share this little story too - I have a 22 yr old son who has Down Syndrome. We got in the car last Friday to head to the 'big city' and he asked where we were going. I told him we were going to the big city to pick up chicks and he nearly peed himself laughing like a little school girl at the prospect of him and his mom going to pick up chicks!

Here are a few pics of the chicks we picked up - GL/SL/BL Standard Polish. We also picked up a few old biddies and a Salmon Faverolle rooster! LOL











And here is a photo of my son visiting a local touring farm where he got to see 'real live dinosaurs' aka Emus and hold an Emu egg
