Okay, Everyone:

Press your ear up against your incubator and tap on a window...

Is there any cheeping??

I like to tap to encourage them. They love to hear it, like it's Momma's beak tapping to encourage them!

I like to do this. My fiance looks at me funny when I do, though.

I also found out last night that I'm marrying someone with really good brooder ideas.

He doesn't mind when I start talking chickens and even throws in some suggestions!

I say baby parrot formula, parakeet grit (a dish for them at 2 days old, helps prevent mucky bum), and a small log and a spade of grass (sod, w/ roots) out of the yard. I'm not kidding! They jump up on the log and pick various organics from the bark, and the sod also helps to put beneficial flora and fauna in their gut. Some might fear this would bring on coccidiosis, but I've experienced just the opposite.
You can buy grit for chicks now.

Parakeet grit often has calcium in it which is bad for little chicks.

Quick runthrough, as I've just worked 26 out of the last 48 hours and now I have to run out to the farm...

I do love this, but the eggs should be upright, with the fat end up. Gravity dictates the air cell will go to the top with every bump and jarring motion the whole trip, and that will trash the air cells...

Please let them know they can come here for help and we'll all pitch in to do anything we can, should you need it!!

I need some help deciding on turkey

We will process 3 a year, SOOOOO do I buy all toms or both? can toms grow out together? how long until I can process a turkey? like a broad breasted?

You're on the wrong thread...you need to bust a move over to the Cinco de Mayo thread...and I have your address, still. Look for turkey eggs next week.

Head to a pet store and get some baby parrot formula. Mix it with water and feed by squirting it on the crack of the beak. Once it tastes it, it will chow down, and the probiotics and dense nutritional value will help a lot.

I recommend that everyone have this on hand for weak chicks, sick or injured adults, etc.

Quote: Wish I knew who it was, I need turkey eggs and am afraid they will be like yours.

Head over to the Cinco de Mayo thread and someone will set you up with great eggs there!

Well, first EE chick has made his/her entrance...many more peeping....
This is day 20 but, in the past they usually start early. Temp is always
just at 100 degree but, this has been normal to start early so I don't mess
with the gauge setting...Have 40 out of 42 in lockdown....2 where for sure spoiled
...can't see through thick dark shells so I give all a chance.
Some eggs may have gotten chilled in later Feb. so I don't expect a high
average of hatching..
Started 9 am March 7 ...good luck to other early setters!!!!!

Okay, put your ear up to the window and tap again!!!

Off to the farm.

A friend of mine made these today. I thought the looked pretty neat. ...made with butterscotch, chow mein noodles, & Reese's eggs.

Is that one you had to help? IDK for sure but maybe that is why it needed help, it's legs were not working in the shell. I would check it's leg joints to see if something is amiss. Other than that you got it through the hard part now it's trying to adapt and get around best it can. It will figure it out. Hope somebody else can help more.

I didn't have to help it. Not sure what happened, because I thought it was standing fine at first... not positive though.
Are it's legs out to the sides - spraddle leg?
nope.. underneath. Like a little toad...

LOL...

Okay.. so I HAVE baby parrot hand feeding formula sitting on top of my fridge right now. (My sweet Pionus was knocking at death's door over Christmas break, and I hand fed her every 6 hours around the clock for a week and nursed her back to health. The vet said it was a miracle... )... anyway.. I have been saying all day that I was going to mix some up and try it tonight... good to know it was a smart move.. maybe I have some instinct after all...
