ahhhhhhhh.....No cheeps in my bator and they are all standing up so hard to see wiggles. Grrrrrrrrrrr.........this is when the frustration sets in. lol Of course I set on the 9th so I know its ok...but you guys are teasing me! lol

Oh that brings up another point I was going to bring up earlier....I hope I don't jinx myself, but...I have never had a pip at the wrong end. Could this be because I incubate with them standing up? Kind of like saying that the chick would have to be standing on its head to pip the wrong end?

Just checking in. I started with 42 eggs. I candled today and went into lockdown. I put 23 in lockdown as the rest were either clear or had stopped developing. It seems the Orps were the biggest loss. I have 12 ee, 4 bcm under ee roo and 7 Orps (but could be wrong because I didn't mark them and I have an ee that lays a pink/brown egg).

My count today: 23 in lockdown but since some were too dark to candle this may not be an accurate count.

Good luck to everyone!

I have a chick!!! Hatched about 5 minutes ago!!! Yay! I had just about given up hope for this whole hatch... And 2 days early! I'm so happy because it is one of the chicks for my friend. After such disappointing development, she said if she even got one chick she would be happy. She is starting her own little flock of layers and when she heard these chicks would hatch out for Easter, she wanted to give them to her 6 year old son from the Easter Bunny. She's going to set the brooder up in her basement, then lay jelly bean eggs through the house and down the stairs and tell Mason it is Easter Bunny poop and have him follow it and find the chick!!! Too fun!

I rushed to get my son and made a trip to a few different stores to get the poly vi sol with out iron and finally found it at walmart...thought for sure when I got back my little white silkie would be gone. Well, I run into the room and my white silkie is up and running around (remember I thought this chick was unable to be helped (although I still got electrolytes in his mouth by putting it on his beak and not even sure if he got any because he was so unresponive)...
Well, I walked in JUST to see my RIR just put up his last fight and stop breathing.

I have a pip. LOL..it's one of the tiniest pips I've ever seen. I must have just caught it as it first pushed it out..just a tiny chip on the egg. It will probably be more of a normal looking one by the time I go back in later. It's in one of my OE's! I've been trying to get an OE forever..I want that Olive egg!
Congrats!
Guess what! That little egg with the pip has now hatched! It's trying to stand up between another unhatched egg and the side of the container, but there's not much room! It would have more room if it went back to where the empty egg is.
I did end up putting the hydrometers back it, because the humidity was high enough, I could stand to let some out. Now that the chick's hatched - all three hydrometers agree (after calculating their % off) that's it's 75% humidity in there! There's no condensation on the window. Is it okay that it's so high?
I'll post the pics of the chick after I lock up the big girls and boys for the night.

Well, my day 19 chirping has turned into 5 external pips so far! 3 barred rock pips, and 2 easter egger pips. Tomorrow is going to be a big day! Who am I kidding... it's going to be a long night! Pretty sure I'll be a zombie for work tomorrow... & good thing I get to work from home! Just saying!

Now that that's out of my system! Dad didn't put up a fight when I started talking about silkies today. I gave up on them early last year because he kept saying no. I told him I just wanted one hen (and I do just want a hen) and he just sat there and listened. It came up after I asked if he'd checked to see if the feed store was still going to take the chicks (which I doubt after hearing him say they had a bunch) and he said that they had what looked kinda like turkey poults, but to me they sounded more like guinea keets. Which we both want. I told him I wanted a silky hen for a pet and for brooding.

I'm hoping they'll still take the chicks so I can talk dad into getting some keets if that's what they are. I didn't go with him this morning so I have no idea what they could have really been.

Boy I have been so busy. Got my eggs in lock down yesterday at noon. Laid them down on their side. As it worked so good for me the last hatch.. I am not into candling so all eggs looked healthy (no Leakers) I expect non fertiles and quitters and just cannot outters. I like doing the eggchecks after the hatch. I just loved how nice the tops of the egg pipped off in last hatch. oh 113 eggs now to count down...
PS won my cream legbar eggs on Ebay Think I figured out this bidding thing.. LOL Back to work. Happy Hatching
Yayayayayayayay! Congrats Sueg4332 have fun with those sweet legbars

Now..the pip is a normal looking pip..lol..that was so funny to see that. I knew it had just barely touched the egg shell. Right where it's supposed to be is exciting, because I have a lot that have the saddle air sacs, or air sacs all up one side.

Congratulations everyone on all the pips and hatched chicks!!

Still waiting for signs of life here. I keep checking, shining the flashlight, talking, cheeping, listening...

But it looks like my chicks are planning on waiting until their real "due date"! Oh well, I am not worried... yet.
