NewChick hereafter referred to as "NC," is sound sleep in a fold of the heated throw across my lap. A Beanie Baby rooster binky was not sufficient to make it feel "not alone" in its cage brooder.

On the other side of the fold in the throw, Lizbeth (cat, for those not hanging onto every word about my pets' lives) is stretched across my lap. Before falling asleep, NC pecked Lizbeth's nose when the latter sniffed the former.

I got the cutest picture but I will have to upload and post it later.

For what I think is an obvious reason.
If there is reincarnation I want to come back as one of your pets!

I have a pip. LOL..it's one of the tiniest pips I've ever seen. I must have just caught it as it first pushed it out..just a tiny chip on the egg. It will probably be more of a normal looking one by the time I go back in later. It's in one of my OE's! I've been trying to get an OE forever..I want that Olive egg!
Let's just hope its a HEN!!!! hahaha! Knock on wood!

ok so a while ago i posted pictures of my white faced black spanish chicks and at the time only 4 had hatched. almost a full day later the 5th chick hatched and was noticeably smaller than the other four, at the time that made sense but they are a week old now and he is still very noticeably smaller than the other guys. could one day later still be making a difference or do you think i somehow got one chick in the bantam version of the breed? male vs female? any other ideas?

I had a lavender ameraucana that was the same. He did not grow at all. His wing feathers grew, but he stayed the size of a newly hatched chick. His hatch mate, another lavender ameraucana was 5 times his size at one month. She ended up mothering him. He was active, ate well, drank well. I found him one morning at around 5 weeks. He had passed away. I'd heard of similar situations here on byc. I too thought that I'd gotten a bantam by mistake. I hope your little one fares better. Some people on here have used vitamins with great success. I think in my case it was some kind of genetic abnormality. I've heard dwarfism is not uncommon. Good luck with your little one. He/she's adorable.

Hi Everyone! So happy to see people getting pips and even hatching:) we have 9 in lockdown (had another couple of quitters that be left in the incubator just in case but didn't move to the hatcher). I had a misunderstanding with a sick horse and a fence yesterday and ended up in a full leg immobilizer and crutches for the unforeseen future so our posts will be slow lol! I am way behind now on the thread but I am really looking forward to the hatch and we will hopefully see some pips of our own very soon!

We got one pip last night, day 19, and this morning they started hatching.

So far we have 8 out of 10 shipped Ameraucanas, 5 out of 9 shipped Marans, and 5 out of 16 potential homegrown Olivers.

the Olivers had smaller air cells and are probably 'fresher' than the shipped eggs. Not bad so far, but a little early. It was a tick warmer than I'd have liked for a couple days, so that's probably why.

lots still pipping and we moved some to the brooder coop tonight.

Well thirteen hatched so far....almost every other egg has pipped. One of the chicks that hatched died shortly after hatching though. Must have had a rough go of it and just didn't have the strength to go on. So down to 12. Can't wait to see what I wake up to.

My hatch has started! I had to set early, so they're due tomorrow. As usual, the bantam lavender Am eggs are hatching a day early, so I've got lots of peeping from the "Iowacana" tray going on right now. I really need to get a clear door for my hatcher so I can SEE in there, lol.

I can see a blue Marans egg with a pip, lots of cheeping in there. Think I'll be flooded with chicks tomorrow!

Also, on a happy note, my turkey eggs that are a week in are developing. :D

lol..thanks... His, Mine, and Ours. And it is good. Good kids, all of them.
Hey, all my life as long as I can remember I wanted 6 of each (Brady Bunch)
-. But the "C" stepped in not once but twice and my husband an I realized the gift was right in front of us. A whole bunch of nieces and nephews, and children of friends who think we are cool a hunk of lovin' fools.
