That's how I felt About the brinsea too, they seem great but I want the option of more. Not that I'm a continuous hatchet nor plan to be but just like the option of being able to put in more eggs. I have the hovabator genesis 1588 and even though the digital reading isn't great I still feel it held its temp and humidity well, aslong as you don't open the lid. I definitely agree if you hatch a lot and frequent then something better and more expensive will be worth it! It sort of saves money if the eggs you purchase have a better chance at hatching so worth it to sink money into a cabinet bator.

Good luck finding a better and bigger bator!

I love my Brinsea ECO 20, but I just hatch small scale (now anyway). However, you can build your own cabinet incubator. Check this link:

Otherwise check out places like Craigslist. Here there are 2 Brinsea 380's for like $400 each. Quite a savings from retail.

Please help! I finally had one of my 4 chicken eggs hatch and his navel looked like this. The incubator got up to 102 when I was gone for Easter & he zipped half way, but then was

stuck for several hours so I had to give him a little help( I did not remove him from the egg). The navel was very sticky and bloodless so I tied it with floss and cut it(it was getting caught on his feet). It looks like second picture now. Do you think he'll be ok? Also, what should I do with the other eggs? They don't show any sighs of life and I set around 9:30pm on the 9th.

ohhhh yes what is she!! GORGEOUS CHICK!

All of my babies are Seramas... the black and white "pied" chicks grow up to be exchequer, black and white spotted so to speak :)

I have gotten three exchequer from that pair of parent birds plus Deemon, who is oddly colored... mostly slate/black but with a lot of gold on its face. NOt even got a clue what color it will turn out to be :D

For those of you who want to know how long it takes to catch up on 210 posts...... 43 min.

I didn't even think to look for a hatch a long. But I put some eggs in that are due tomorrow, but two have hatched this afternoon and several more have pipped. (so far two easter egger/bcm crosses. The other eggs are pure BCM and pure Dominique)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! (and hatch!)
It has been a very busy weekend here therefore I really fell behind on posts and I just couldn't seem to have enough time to sit down and catch up.

My hatch is over and was so-so. Like Kim, I am happy when something hatches. Lately I have been doing better with shipped eggs than local. Hows that for ironic?
I set 32 eggs
14 day candle, removed 12 clears
Lockdown - removed 3 more, locked down 17
9 hatched
7 Olive eggers
2 Cochin

Oh and that beautiful purple egg I had???? It hatched and she (

) is pictured below (kim...Im thinking she could be a great influence to your purple layers flock)
What color do you think she will feather out as? Could I be so lucky for her to be lavender? Lavender purple egg layers...who wouldn't want them?

I'm cross eyed at this point. You were wrong, took over 2 hours for 202 posts. LOL

She does look like she may be lavender or splash, but I'm leaning towards lavender. My original momma of my project birds is a splash. I should be able to buy a new phone after rent is paid, so I need to take picks of her and her son that I kept for the project. He has her coloring over lavender. He's huge and getting pretty, but he runs full speed around here chasing my hens. He's a pain! But he's also what I kind of want them to look like later on and he's the biggest of the project roos. I sent one to Southern Cal and I have another that I need to contact someone about, but he's just bigger than a bantam, so not sure if they'll still want him. You'll have to keep me updated on how this one turns out and if SHE lays those eggs.

I have a few Buff Orpington chickens within my family. One of the chickens, Baby, is specifically mine. We are only allowed to have hens not roosters and I am beyond terrified that my chick is a rooster because if she is a rooster I have to get rid of her. She is only 3 weeks old right now which is why it is hard to tell but maybe someone has advice or tips or maybe you flat out can tell. Is she a hen or a rooster?

I am begging you, please help me! I love this little girl/boy with all my heart!
Thank you!

PM me if you are interested! I have really appreciated all your articles, they have helped me save more than one chick! Thank you!

Here is a shot of a few of the chicks I hatched..I could only handle four..lol.. They did
pretty good.

My last egg still hasn't hatched! Pipped this morning and has been zipped since around dinner time. I just checked on it. It's making progress so I will leave it be, but boy it's sure taking its sweet time. This chick keeps it up and it will be a full two days younger than the last chick that hatched.

I like that design my only concern would be the lack of insulation. It probably wouldn't keep heat well if the power went out. I'll have to show it to my husband, we have been talking about buying a cabinet incubator, but it might be cheaper to build one.
