We like to change the contests slightly every year to keep it from getting boring. We do keep the most popular contests every year and the contests that we enjoy watching. (It's our fun while we do this)

With that said, what contests do you love?
Any contest ideas you haven't seen that you would like to?

If you'd like to reply privately, please PM me, Sally or Mike.

I had 5 chicks hatch. All of them were from my own flock. None of the shipped eggs that I set hatched. One of the chicks is having problems and can't stand up, so it will probably have to be culled.

Mammy lambed about an hour ago. A beautiful ewe lamb. Everyone meet Lily

Adorable, congrats!
First of all, Congrats! everyone on their hatches. Saw some beautiful pictures and great tips that were helpful. I missed the HAL deadline and set late. Day 19 just started for me an hour ago. I went into lockdown at midnight and haven't slept since then. Any ideas how to go to sleep short of a sleeping pill:)

Here are the stats, Whole Foods eggs Set 11- None developed.
Shipped Choc Wyandotte eggs- 9 Set- 4 in lock-down
Shipped CCL eggs- 11 set- 5 in lock-down 2 of them still suspicious
Temp readings- between 99 and 100 both on the Brinsea Ocatgon 20 Thermometer and the Accucheck
Humidity reading on the Accucheck 74% right now and has been pretty much between 71-74 since last night

For humidity I filled up the wells to the top. Put folded papertowels with one end in the well and other laid flat on the base on the incubator. Laid paper towel on the egg tray. leaving edges of tray open for humid air to flow up from the wells, covered the paper towel with shelf liner. Put eggs on top laid on their sides with drawn portion of air-sac up. Put a small water container in one corner in the back and filled it with marbles. In the second corner is a wet sponge. Vent of the incubator is half open.

Have I covered all bases? And what level can I let humidity fall to after which its critical to open the bator and add some more water without causing any damage.

Thanks for your input!

I think you've got it covered! Good luck!

Got a question... Woke up to another chick out; watched her for a while & she seemed fine. This afternoon she was dry, lively & fluffed out so I scanned for pips and, seeing none, took her out, checked her sex & popped her in the brooder. Five minutes later, chick is screaming - the other chicks are attacking her feet. Picked her up & examined her feet... She has what look like small blood blisters on the bottoms of her feet. Feet are normally shaped, toes straight, toenails correct, etc - just lots of red spots on the bottoms. Definitely sub-dermal fluid, not skin discoloration.
Can't take a pic right now because when I popped her back in the incubator there were cheeping eggs & I can't open it again until they're out. Has anybody had this before? Is this a result of the several temp drops? Incubator went as low as 86 three times, possibly up to four hours once, up to 2-3 hours the other two times.

I have not seen this before but It seems like an infection of some sort. Sterilize the incubator well with a light bleach solution or oxine.

Treat the feet with vetricyn but likely blue kote to keep the others from attacking the feet.

Poor thing!

So far only 2 of my 25 have hatched. The two pipped yesterday. One egg out of 25 didn't develop so working with 24 of my own eggs. Bummed that the others are not doing anything. they all looked great at day 14 when I candled them. Hoping their might be at least one more. :)

I put 10 Black Copper Marans eggs under my broody Marans hen on Saturday and another fresh laid Black Copper Marans egg one on Sunday. ....
So please add Qty (11) Black Copper Marans Eggs to the count.
Unfortunately we got skunked on this hatch. 0 out of 11.

We had a rotten egg break in the nest about 3-4 days into incubation and it ruined the hatch. Poor broody hen all that work for nothing.
