I set 10 eggs under a first time Buff Leghorn broody. A week before hatch a 2nd Buff Leghorn joined her on the same nest, and they shared the eggs. 1st chick hatched Thursday.

Nothing Friday or Saturday.
Easter Sunday I could see 5!
Today I checked and Found 9!!!
One problem...
The moms were not sharing. I found this baby on the ground with two other chicks and one of the moms.

I put the other two babies back into the nest and tried to clean up the injured chick. Applied Rooster Booster. I assumed a predator had caused a scene, and injured the chick. When I went to return the chick one of the moms attacked it. I pulled it out and planned to add it to the brooder I have going for some of my Incubated chicks. Before I could turn around the two moms had started fighting over another chick! Right before my eyes they scalped this one too!

At this point I took them all away! Added the healthy ones to my brooder, and the two injured ones in a secure separated container.
Here are a couple of the happy chicks.

long story short. I gave her 10 eggs for the HAL. By day 21 she has hatched out 9 of the eggs. I will let you know if the last egg hatches.

What is the yellow and black spotted one? And could you separate the greens and give each some chicks?

Here is the little HAL cockatoo, (squawkatoo).

And my only two HAL chicken chicks.
This is the Serama from a shipped egg with a saddle air cell.

And this is the Frizzle X Ameracauna. I think this is the softest chick ever! And he/she has small feathers down the legs...

I listed three African grey eggs for the HAL. One is clear, but the other two must be close to hatching. Can't candle very well with the mom sitting on them. The weather plays a part with them. I thought they should have hatched between Saturday and today.. Any day now.....

One of the two HAL Silver pheasants under a broody has draw down today. These guys are a little late also, but again, maybe because of our crazy weather swings.
So awesome! Love the cockatoo - though glad it is you and not me having to feed the little bugger!

Yup, the tiny gladiator chicks that survived! :) The breeder of the eggs we got think they are blue! :)
That is such great news!

The Singing incubator from Hell hatched some chicks!

It sounds like it must have been exhausting for you but worth it at the end!

Oh my goodness Nomibear! I haven't had many broody hens, just a couple through the years. I wonder what caused them to do this! I hope these babies pull through.
That yellow one looks pretty bad. Good luck on this. :/

Final count 1st Hatch- 27/45 with 11 clears, some from my mixed girls and some from purchased locally eggs, 2 early quitters and 5 chicks that never pipped. I am pleased with the results. 27 gorgeous babies running around and doing great so far. Only 9 out of 24 bought eggs(well bought 10 and they gave me 14 more), so still not bad. Ended up with 1 Coronation Sussex (oh please be a girl), 1 Barnevelder, 3 Heritage Delaware, 2 olive eggers, and 2 Lavendar Orps. The other 18 are from my girls covered by an EE roo. They are every color you can imagine. From a black eyed, black beaked, black chick to chipmunks, a chocolate, and a yellow with black "ink" spots. They're precious! So excited! Thanks again to you all!! I learned so much from so many of you.

For those of you who are still waiting on broodies take heart! Neither of my silkies sitting had hatched pipped or peep when we left sunday. Since they usually hatch on day 18 or so I had given up but had nothing to give to the mommas as babies so I left the eggs while I figured out what might be a plan.

I came home tonight to 5 silkies and 3 seremas peeping up a storm! All under the wrong silkie who had stolen all of them without being broody!!

I moved the offending girl and gave the babies back to the happy mothers still waiting on the ungatched eggs.

Ebony 2 is still huffing in outrage.

They had sever nest confusion that made all the eggs late. Ill try and get pictures in the morning when I move them.
