I know what the problem is. With my turner in, temp is where it is suppose to be. Once I remove it, I cant get temp back up, even after adjusting it. Have had 4 of 16 hatch only have two that have survived. Going to keep it turned on for another day or two. Lockdown started last Thursday.

I came home from work today, to my only smooth cochin hen missing. I had kept her because she had such a great character. She was my little butterball.

There were some feathers in a pile, but nothing else. And she was broody too. She would get off her nest just to greet me each night and then run right back to her nest.

I collected all her eggs and stuck them in the incubator, so hoping I got to them in time. 6 fertile eggs went in.

Looks like we are going hunting this weekend.

I'm sorry, I hope you get those eggs to hatch. Any idea on what predator may have gotten her?

No worries it can still be many many hours before it progresses, possibly up to 24(sometimes more sometimes less). Sit on your hands and it will work on getting out, they need lots of rest while trying to break out of the egg.

If it looks like that, and it's in the air cell, you can go to bed, get up go to work or school, come home and it may have progressed some. It can take 20+ hours

There is no reason to worry. You will be confusing people though by showing a picture of an egg that is not yours. The egg in the picture above is pipped in the wrong place.

On day 20, the pipped egg may stay pipped until tomorrow morning when a different egg will have hatched first.

Take a deep breath! All is well and you will have chicks soon!

That is so true, my first pipped egg is seldom my first to hatch.

Thanks all of you for your input. I will probably not be able to sleep now anyways. I am lucky I work from home so have flexible hrs but will make myself busy to keep my mind off:

i just spent the last 45 minutes with a dying baby chick. holding her and keeping her comfortable. I noticed something was wrong when she was layig down sleeping and didn't flinch or wake when the others pecked at her toes. I picked her up and she was limp. She died in my hands and threw up yellow foam before taking her last breath. So sad :-(

So sorry..this is very sad. Sounds like you weren't even concerned about it being sick until you saw it towards the end.

We have had foxes, possums, raccoon and hawks. So no telling. First time they have ever gotten into the free ranges' yard. We have an outer property fence then the inner fenced area for the free range chickens with coops and runs in the center of it.

They won't use the coop. The fly up to the roof of the other coops for the night. Unfortunately, Butterball was broody under an open space of a coop.

Might have to put up a motion camera. Then a hunting we will go, a hunting we will go...

Well I finally have a happy update!! I have one external pip 5 confirmed internal pips, 2 maybes, and 2 that seem to be a day or more behind. They haven't even really drawn down yet. One I still swear somehow has twins in it. We shall see.

Yaay! And, wouldn't that be something if there were twins? A fun one for sure for the HAL!

First day of hatching, 11 welsh harlequin & 13 mixed turkey in lockdown. 2 ducklings and 4 poults so far with many more pips. Looking forward to finding surprises in the morning :)
Our oldest son (4 yo) was so excited, this is how he fell asleep, that's a poult sleeping on his lap.

Our very first duckling, I can't believe how big they are! Already love her (think it's a female) she has been cleaning all the others as they enter the brooder :)
