I use a regular dog nail clipper on my White faced Black Spanish roo, I slip the clipper over until its about 1/4" out and snip as fast as I can and then I have kwik stop power and blot it on the cuts, they stop bleeding in a heart beat and the roo has been scared poopless of me ever since I started this. <giggles?
Well, then that is definitely worth trying! This roo (whom we call The Governor) is scary sneaky! We have 1-1/4 acres, I'll look around and he will be way over on the other side of fence out in the woods. The first time I was all like "cool, he's way over there, no prob"

and started gathering eggs and whatnot. Five seconds later I hear a small shuffling sound, turn around and there he is wings out, feathers all fluffed out and legs a flying and it was on!!

Hubby was all "well you shouldn't have screamed and freaked out." Yeah right - that bird was half an acre away and then boom there he was attacking me. He is the creepiest thing every. I will admit I am slightly afraid of him, but I do stand my ground, walk through him and the hens, carry a large stick or the rake with me. I have read other posts about taming a rooster and making him nice, the problem is every single one starts out "First grab the rooster" and I am all yeah no. So will have to try this over the weekend, the thought that maybe I can scare him is definitely worth it!

Honestly I wouldn't even bother with spur removal. A mean rooster doesn't need to be kept around, there are too many good, nice and gentle roosters out there that deserve a flock and a home. Here at my house mean roosters here don't get more chances they get sent to the freezer. I have kids too and wouldn't take the chance on maybe he will be taught to be nicer. This is just my own personal opinion.
That's kinda of my thoughts too. My boys are little freaked about me putting him in the freezer, but I am pretty sure he is going away sometime really soon. Plus I know I have at minimum 5 out of 21 chicks that are roosters, so I definitely will not have a shortage.

Clear spaces..on both sides?  Hmmm, could very well be saddle air cells.  ?

No it's not air cell space.

Anyways LOOK!!!!

The silly thing had only halfway unzipped so I took a few small pieces off and it popped out in my hand. I candled all the other eggs and found that one had stopped moving so I opened it to find the baby had indeed passed but was malpositioned with it's head by it's vent. It also only had half formed toes on both feet with only 1 full toe on each foot. But the baby that is out is perfect. 4 others have external pips now!

Hahaha! I have so been there! Ninja roosters are the worst! I had the most beautiful and terrifying Wyandotte rooster a couple of years ago that would do that. I used to go out and gather eggs with a pitchfork in one hand, and a trash can lid in the other, like a soldier. I tried taming him. Finally couldn't take it anymore, and I gave him away. The ad read "If you can catch the devil rooster, he's yours" . It took the guy 2 hours to finally capture him. He earned his free rooster. I normally process overly mean roosters, but honestly, I couldn't bring myself to eat this one, which I know sounds ridiculous. But he was so beautiful and free spirited. (And psychotic)

LOL - ninja rooster is the perfect description! I am sure my neighbors watch every day to see what I am going to be wearing and doing in the back yard

, I know it has to crack them up. I definitely think he is going to have to go one way or the other really soon (like this week). I also love the way he looks and everything and he does look out for my girls, but he gots to go!
