Hurray for Cynthia12!

I am test hatching 6 Silkie eggs as well. I got this Silkie about 3 weeks ago from unknown source. When I broke her eggs, they looked fertilized so I am just giving it a shot to prove the hypothesis that eggs can stay fertilized for more than 3 weeks. Although with the bullet shaped eggs she lays, I highly doubt a chick can survive in there for 21 days. Let see whats cooking at first candling. Its Day #4 already for them.

Ugh... This is so hard! The ones that should be hatching today are not doing anything. Air cells have not drawn down, some are dead just as of today. I made a little hole on the air cell end of one egg to see what was going on. I expected a malposition. The beak was right there under the membrane as if he should be pipping through, but not doing anything. Alive but not moving much. Still a few good veins so I didn't want to risk getting his beak through the membrane. I was sure he would do it himself. It definitely looked like he should be pipping. He died a couple hours later and so did another one that I hadn't messed with!!!

Here are pictures of the one that did get through the membrane that I'm trying to help. I just now chipped away more shell. No blood issues at all. Not sure if I should proceed further yet. Probably should wait a bit. He looks pretty ready and is gasping a bit. No cheeping. I am just trying to make sure he doesn't drown or suffocate. His nose looks clear and clean. Membranes are white and I put water on them to make them clear for the pictures...some small veins.

I hope he makes it!

Looking good. Just keep working on it a bit at a time, not seeing a lot of blood is good. Won't be long, this little one will be running about.

I just lost my first fancy feather girl... Im so devastated. I saw a pile of feathers on the ground and I lost it. My precious baby is gone, taken by a hawk. She was a good mom. Im going to miss her like crazy </3

best broody Ive ever had, best mother ive ever had! She raised such a wonderful girl!

Going to be putting my Egg in lockdown.
Same with all my Hens, they are going to be in the coop for a while. Ive lost my rooster and my head girl (again) She never comes back when there is an attack.

Is there an award for the latest post on final hatch numbers? I had a total of 22 for the Easter hatch along. Sorry this so late. But they are beautiful, I just wish I knew who the father was....LOL
