Still searching for the elusive Speckled Sussex eggs. Have even put a post up in Craig's list with no luck so far. Am looking on the web, but was not looking to pay a ton for eggs that are going to be a backyard flock... Any suggestions?
Jeff at Papa's Poultry has SS and I believe he ships eggs. He has a website called Papa's Poultry. I have them too, but only hens -- they are super sweet and chatty!. I have a single Branbanter cockerel. Am hoping to cross the two for some crested SS :) I think they'd be cute back yard birds. The Brabanter genetics will increase the egg size too.

Sharing this SS picture because we have one who is forever getting her wires crossed or waking up and having a wild feather day. She follows me into all the wrong pens - forever causing havoc!

Sounds familiar. Lol I have several escape artists who, come out of the pen to follow me around and, beg for treats. Lol love the inquisitive look on your girl...

Ok so I checked my eggs 26 of the first eggs that I put in are good and growing. Three were duds one quit already (blood ring). Here is one of the eggs I candled. In the second batch of eggs that I put in (the seven duck eggs and two chicken eggs from my flock) I have 5 ducks forming and two duds. The two chicken eggs from that batch are duds also. :'( Here is one of the duck eggs. So I am starting to wonder about the fertility of my flock now and am excited that i have chicks forming in their eggs in the incubator. Several asked for pics. Not the best photo since they are still in the incubator, but here they are. Heading to bed with I believe 17 out and several pips still.

with more to hatch tonight!
I have no idea yet. Marans aren't laying. None of the LF AMs, or the SPPRs or the Wellies, or the Sumatras or the Pheonix. So far I have a bunch of youngsters that I need to separate and hatch for purebreds. I have 2 hatches going that are due before and on set day, but most are mixes. Need someone out there to lay a lavender egg, so that's what most of the mixes are for. That's why I have to wait on pures afterwards. One of my Silked AMs, the bantam chocolate, black and lavender AMs are starting up. The Silkies and Black Mottles Japs and bantam Blue Langshuns are starting. Also have 3 quail just starting to lay again. I still have time, so I hope something starts happening in all those other pens.
