I came home from work yesterday to find a notice taped to my door. It informed that on Friday, March 14th, from 9:00am to 6:00pm, we will experience an interuption in our power.

NOBODY ASKED ME!! I have a hatch due that day and about 150 eggs in the bator! Off to borrow a generator........

Good luck finding the generator...can't believe they didn't ask you sheesh, some people
I have tried to get some released but Kim wants to make sure thee chickens are close to Show Quality first.

I think she has some of the Best in the US now. That picture was from 2006. They are even better now with 8 years of Breeding.

Maybe next year though since the breeding program has been stepped up a bit.

My girls are culls from Kim. They are the funniest; Running on their little legs with their wide bodies and talking A LOT My oldest D says that every chicken should be a SGD :)
There usually are some with Broody hatches going on.
From your keyboard to my girls' ears. I am setting up cozy golfball filled nest boxes...maybe I should tack up some picks of chicks for henspiration. Should I set my ipod to play lullabies?

That is the buff Brahma that I dyed last year.

Just because everyone else gets to post baby pictures. Daisy is now 6.5 months old. Her dam just came back from being at the breeders for a month.

they might!

Araucana based blue egg layers have blue egg shell genes on a different place than cream legbar based blue egg layers. Crossing them up would make a double blue egg shell gene that may change the blue. It would be cool if it made the blue a darker color.....

I am not a genetics expert by any means but all my research suggests that legbars are a cross of araucana Brown leghorn and ?barred rocks.

There is a Chinese breed not in USA that has a blue egg gene that is different.

Either way I love having blue eggs. I have some ameraucana crosses that have beautiful blue eggs. I have ameraucana teenager birds and legbars in the bator.

I see more blue eggs in my future

niclandia says they were a different breed from south America. The combs are different which puts the blue egg shell gene at a different spot.

The breed used is hidden in the original cross notes. They were trying to keep a secret about how they were made I think.

Anyway, you can get two different types of blue egg shell genes from the cross. One associated with a pea comb and one that is not. They would be double blue too so making stable OEs from them would be easier.

I should add, this is why attempts to recreate them fail.

Me TOO!!!! @chicken picken... When the snow was too deep here I used a sled to move the fresh shavings and such into the coops and the nasty stuff to the garden. (thank you for yet another awesome tip, Sally Sunshine). Since we're posting the goat pics... here are some of my babies: The above pic is of our "Houdini" we simply could NOT keep her put...till we got the No climb fence, NOT one escape since....Woo Hoo!!! @SilkieSensation (I know, I know, there is no such thing as a 'goat proof fence'), but this is working for me, for now. YAY!!
Okay, so what kind of fence do you use? If I'm gonna do this, I want to do it right the first time. Lol

I will take this as good news!

Thanks Ron

I hear ya! Same for pigs and cows! I used to have "in the dirt pigs"! They learned if you pile enough dirt on the electric wire it shorts out. Pigs are pretty smart critters. Miss them!
