Oh Sally I did not know you liked Spanish breeds !
come join us over at the Poultry Breeds of Spanish ancestry thread.
Hopefully there will be a new Spanish breeds club in the USA soon
Someone said this to me, so I don't feel bad saying...I thought you were a Grandmom, by the name, lol! Funny how we get things in our heads. Beautiful! I don't think I've ever told you how much I love your Q-Tip avy. Ingenious.
Qtip avy? Its a Qtip? Must slow down on the down arrow, totally missed that one.
OK I am joining...This is an attempt to get broody fever running through my pens. I don't own a bator and I won't use the borrowed LG again...I was a wreck last time! Instead I have filled my coops with girls that are supposed to be inclined to broodiness. But what I have learned is that "inclined to broodiness" is sadly no guarantee. I figure if I act as though they will be broody in time for an Easter hatch the universe will send me several broodzillas so... here I am, subscribed and knitting chick booties and receiving blankets.
Funny, my son was just telling me today that after our last spitzhauben dies ( we only had 2) that I am not to ever get another. He says they are the meanest chickens out there. In defense of the breed, it was only when they were broody and admittedly she can peck the fire out of you and draw blood thru a heavy duty glove.
You guys are still up right? No one has said Good Night yet so I am still here!
I am keeping two of the chicks I hatched to keep a Cross beaked Delaware company. They are getting along very well. The Del is a weak older than the other two:
I kept one of the Splash UofA blues. This one is quite Spunky:
I have one of the UofA Blues X Crele Penedesencas too. The chicks has a white spot on it's head:
You know, I said I wanted goats too...so I got a pair of 5 week old sisters. Had I known what a pain in my hiney they would be, I wouldn't have gotten them! They are BRATS!!!! I cannot get Butterscotch to stop jumping the darn fence...and I cannot afford more fencing to make it higher (it's 4 ft). When it's time to feed them their grain, nine times out of ten it's scattered all over the place because they both are so pushy they end up knocking the scoop in my hand so the grain goes flying. If I bend down to do something inside their pasture, I end up with a goat on my back (which does NOT tickle). While I'm changing out their water, my hair gets yanked out by the roots because Caramel just LOVES the taste of my hair. If I have to move them from one pasture to another, I need a forklift. Butterscotch drops to the ground and will not budge...I end up having to lure her with a cup of grain to get her from one spot to another.
I have never met a more stubborn set of sisters! That goat milk I'll be getting NEXT spring (they won't be bred until this fall) had better be worth it!!! LOL
Edited to add: Maybe this is why I love my chickens so much more...compared to the goats, my chickens are ANGELS!!!
LOL I agree. Luckily only one of my goats has jumped the fence once, knock on wood.
While I love my 2 little goaties they are sometimes a pain. With all the things you listed above lol. And like you I wont be breeding until fall for a NEXT spring kidding also. It sure is a long time to wait for milk. They are very lucky they are cute
@chicken picken... When the snow was too deep here I used a sled to move the fresh shavings and such into the coops and the nasty stuff to the garden. (thank you for yet another awesome tip, Sally Sunshine).
Since we're posting the goat pics... here are some of my babies:
The above pic is of our "Houdini" we simply could NOT keep her put...till we got the No climb fence, NOT one escape since....Woo Hoo!!! @SilkieSensation (I know, I know, there is no such thing as a 'goat proof fence'), but this is working for me, for now. YAY!!
My easter emu egg is 15 days into incubation and lost 16 grams from last week, so, that's pretty good. Still trying to post a vid of the other eggs wiggling.
Shes giving me the broody face. I noticed her watching me for a week now, and she was getting mad when i take her eggs. She wont risk loosing anymore. Shes building her clutch and wont get off the nest

After the HATCHALONG is well underway do you all want to do the HATCHALONG Participants ONLY Random Funny Posting Contest AGAIN THIS YEAR or something different?
AND we had HATCHALONG PARTICIPANTS do all of the donating of prizes?
SEE FIRST PAGE OF THAT LINK of what we all donated and won!
I thought it was awesome and so many prizes!
This was great fun last year. (For those of you new, about 7 days after setting eggs, we get really anxious and need entertainment)
I also liked the egg decorating constest done one year, and the egg photo contest done one year and the egg food pictures and recipes done one year. Some really genius people on this site.
Low and behold if it isn't the egg decorating contest. It was really neat seeing some of these a few years ago. Too bad I don't have an artistic bone in my body, lol

We've had a rather busy day. I awoke this morning to this: and at 3:00 this afternoon we had our second kidding of the day: So time to get cleaned up and catch up on this thread a little bit later.
