The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

No sleep still, the little fuzzballs have conspired to stagger hatching all night long - on day 21 for that incubator and now 10/32 eggs have hatched. Going to be a sleepless month until Easter with the near weekly hatches. Moral of the story: tiled master bathrooms amplify the peeping a thousand timed over. So loud for such tiny chicks!

i would like to join in. i just got a Still Air Incubator and im really excited to use it. this is my first time attempting to hatch eggs so if anyone has suggestions or tips, that would be AWESOME. i have the Little Giant incubator with an automatic egg turner. ive got a bunch of different chickens so they will probably be mixed breeed since they arent separated but i think thats ok to start. I want to breed purebreds later but i want some practice in first. after i am comfortable with hatching chickens, ill move onto ducks and other fowl (we are considering turkeys).
I just hatched 8 chicks and the 9th on the way from a still air Little Giant. It was my first hatch even myself. I used followed ChooksChicks cheat sheet and it worked. The only problem I experienced is the humidity was too high so the chicks were not drying out. So I took out the paper town on the bottom the screen. I think may be a towel would be better or maybe shop towels. They are thicker and may not get saturated. Here it is: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chookschicks-incubation-cheat-sheet I don't know if it makes a different but I keep the temp in my house at 67. I did purchase the thermometers she listed in her instructions. I am looking into getting a Brinsea Spot Check Thermometer which is recommended by Ron because it is more accurate.

And another thing......

Woke up to another hatched chick and one zipping......Almost up to 9. I think the one that pipped early yesterday evening did not make it. It had such a nice pip too.

We set 27 project eggs last night. And 7 home brewed sex link eggs. My oldest son is doing an SAE project in FFA . He is working with out HRIR .
