Good Morning all! Had to skip ahead about 20 pages myself, chicken pickin', just having busy days around here, but that is okay!

Hope everyone has a terrific day!

The only thing I hatched so far is a pig.lol Heres rosie the pig.

ach du gut!

Here is a few pictures of the breeder pen I built. 10x4x4. I have about 60 bucks in it.
awesome!

I had a "pair" of Toulouse for almost two years before I realized "Kate" was a gander. "She" was great with co-raising Cayuga ducklings... Finally, I ordered 3 sexed goslings last Spring. Caleb, formerly Kate, has claimed all three for himself. Poor Angus.

But the girls started laying this March first. Whoot!

I'm jealous of all the people setting special fowl... and I'm over here with my boring 2nd gen sex links. LOL
Thats awesome!!! and not boring at all!

OMG!! sorta like a 13 lb baby x 50 eh?

i would like to join in. i just got a Still Air Incubator and im really excited to use it. this is my first time attempting to hatch eggs so if anyone has suggestions or tips, that would be AWESOME. i have the Little Giant incubator with an automatic egg turner. ive got a bunch of different chickens so they will probably be mixed breeed since they arent separated but i think thats ok to start. I want to breed purebreds later but i want some practice in first. after i am comfortable with hatching chickens, ill move onto ducks and other fowl (we are considering turkeys).
I put all my research and notes into articles, I hope they can help you! There are a few principals you need to understand to get a good hatch rate.
And its a good thing you are using your own local eggs and NOT shipped eggs for your first attempt! your off to a great start!

Welcome to the hatchalong !

Mushy Chick Disease

An update on my wrong-end pipp. I very slowly chipped away at the pip hole last night, using flat tweezers and the q-tip gently to re-moisten the membrane. The beak was already out, but I think it just went too long like that. She didn't make it. She had really dark beautiful markings on her, too.
I have one egg left in the incubator, which I candled this morning. No movement. If I get back from work today and it still hasn't hatched, I'll probably give up on it too.
I did get the one chick, who is mighty lonely right now. He hatched Sunday. There were only three eggs that made it to lockdown.

My husband offered to go to the hardware store after work and pick up some friends for him. Our state minimum is six.
