i would like to join in. i just got a Still Air Incubator and im really excited to use it. this is my first time attempting to hatch eggs so if anyone has suggestions or tips, that would be AWESOME. i have the Little Giant incubator with an automatic egg turner. ive got a bunch of different chickens so they will probably be mixed breeed since they arent separated but i think thats ok to start. I want to breed purebreds later but i want some practice in first. after i am comfortable with hatching chickens, ill move onto ducks and other fowl (we are considering turkeys).
Welcome, MaineiacJay, I'm so glad you are joining us. I am guessing you are close to Maine - I am close to Vermont. Last night I candled Day 14 eggs in my test hatch. All 23 eggs seemed to be alive, although there were two that were so dark I really couldn't tell much. Lockdown is Wednesday. I weighed them and figured the percentage lost to be about 10%, so I think I am pretty close to target.
Hello neighbors
