Melina90 - My Mom (73) had one side replaced 18 years ago and has to have it redone because it's fallen apart.  I hope yours does and goes well.

I have also hatched upright and horizontal and agree with Pozees...I like upright better.

Pozees and Noncentzter: Thankyou both! I've had arthritis since I was a teenager, and look forward to get a new life! I have to wait a while though, because my heart isn't in shape for surgery yet. Someone please send over some patience - I sure don't have too much of it right now! Haha :)

Best of luck to your mom, Noncentzter, hope all goes well with her surgery!

As far as my eggs go, I got home in time for their midday turn. A small temp spike of 38 degrees on the bator made me panic, but then I remembered the temperature is always a little lower on egg level... Tomorrow is slaughter day here, a friend of mine is coming over to help me. Can't say I look forward to it... Oh well. It has to be done. Good night peeps!

I was actually wondering, do any of us actually EAT eggs anymore?

As much as possible! I've struggled with malnutrition for the past six months (heart failure = no appetite). And we all know eggs are nutrient bombs! So I put them on or in everything I eat. Started making "drinks" of simply whipped eggs with some berries and sugar twice a day - my vitamin stats are really climbing, and my energy levels with it :)

Yes I have heard of Bobcats and coyote being in the area. My friend also says they have cougar and there is a rumor of a panther... Their last name is DeLong, who knows maybe you have heard of the name. Lol.
Never heard of anyone having problems with having chickens and peafowl together. Course I don't have any peafowl yet so I can't say much...

No offense, but cougars and panthers are the same species. They are also called pumas, catamounts, mountain lion, painter, mountain cat - all the same animal.

I've been camping on the river and had cougars growl in the brush just a short distance from the tent.

Coyotes are roaming during the day here now.

Luv you too. This thread is just too busy for me to follow this time of year. I have a garden and chickens.
I'll try to keep up.

Despite the freezing weather I believe I've collected eggs before they were frozen. The two girls in the breeding pen are laying up a storm. Collected 8 eggs in 5 days with 4 more days to go. Looks like I'll at least have a bakers dozen for the hatch. Not bad considering they laid their first eggs last week of February and already done with the pullet eggs.

So I'm on day 20 of my current batch. The humidity has stayed a constant 65-67 since lockdown started and now when I went to check I have a pip and my humidity is dropping like a stone. Went from 66 to 54 in an hour...I thought humidity went UP when chicks started pipping?

I added some water thru a vent hole into a dish with a papertowel to bump it back up. Think any harm was done? I'll have to watch for this during my Easter Hatch.

Great, I hope you get a few more before set day!

Yes, humidity usually goes up when they start pipping. I doubt if any harm was done.

No, they are fine. I have had them hatch at much lower humidity.

Can you get water into the water channels? Some of them must be going dry.
