I now have all the shipped eggs for the Easter Hatch-A-Long!!! The last box came today

...only 1 broken egg out of 15 (too bad there weren't any extras though) so I only have 1 chance to hatch a BLRW, 2 Brabenters, a couple Ameraucanas, 1 Cuckoo Maran, a couple of Wheaten Marans, a few Olive Eggers, a few more BCM, but lots of possibilities for Speckled Sussex, and Silver Birchens... It will be a busy and colorful incubator if I have a good hatch rate. I cna't wait to get them going...they are sitting and resting...I feel like the assorted mix box got really knocked around to have that one egg break so badly...and they were packed really well in there. Well, shipping is not always wonderful, and I know it's a gamble...now if there was a way to find some local BLRW eggs...hmmmm....anyone live nearby in Pa or NJ have them? The anticipation is killing me.

Okay random question!!! Where in your house do you all run your incubators?

I am trying to figure out which room to do. With 3 kids I can't have grabby hands that are in reach of it. My older two know better but my youngest would yank it down and throw eggs at the dog or something. I was thinking about keeping it in our bedroom on the dresser. Our room stays pretty constant. However, I am imagining that on hatch day(s) everyone will want to be gathered around... AND I am thinking the peeping will keep us awake those last days?? Hmmm just not sure and was curious where everyone else's was

I keep 3 incubators in my master bath and less than 15 feet from where I sleep. I love waking up to cheeping. My hubby on the other hand, would love to give them a bedroom of their own, but I keep putting it off, I want them in my bedroom.

.Im using my grandmas incubator circa mid-1950s.... i let it run for 5 days and adjusted the thermostat (holy confusing!!!) but it worked and according to my digital thermometer/hydrometer its hunky dory comfy cosey

I set eggs that are due to hatch April 5th (out of pure excitement... forgetting the March 29th set date). NOW... heres my question if i set another dozen (there's plenty of room) will it compromise anything? I currently have cheese cloth under the eggs that are set now for "easier clean up" which I suppose is my main concern. :-( help/opinions please

I run staggered hatches in my cabinet bator, hatching in the bottom, with eggs incubating above. The important thing to do remember is to watch the humidity. Basically I end up with no water in the incubator unless they are hatching. When I have a pip, I take the humidity up, when they are done, I open the doors let the humidity come down for a few minutes, remove water until the next weekend when I have another lockdown

Happy Chooks..... unfortunately it will all be in the same incubator which is what worries me... unless i transfer the hatching chicks into a homemade incubator for lock down. Which i suppose is entirely possible... if i knew what the heck i was doing to make one!!?! Yikes!! Any suggestions? My dad claimed that he used to stagger hatches all the time in that incubator (I dont doubt him, but i am one who does all the negative "what if's") He says it will be fine as long as they are properly marked..... maybe i should go figure out how to make a homemade incubator? ::Sigh::

Cynthia, every time you post this I want this hen all over again! Do the Standard Faverolles look the same?


Edited to say I Googled it myself. The beards and muffs are hilarious. They are so big they almost look like a fake Santa beard. I didn't see any of the black on those hens though, and I like your's black.

I am trying hard to get standard faverolles. I love the Roosters. They remind me of Mr. T

I just got some of these! They shipped and hatched very well, only lost one that was a sticky chick situation, otherwise every egg that wen into the incubator hatched.

My CCL box arrived today. Looks like the USPS had a field day. One egg asploded in the box and another was bashed in. However, since there were two eggstras, I ended up with an even dozen. Only four normal air cells, the rest saddle shaped or partially detached, but with the egg painted inside the box I count myself lucky. It looks like Ace Ventura got a hold of it.

Fingers crossed my little scrambled egglets develop. Also have 2+ dozen of my Iowa Blues collected, hoping to have 3 dozen by tomorrow to set. Poor traveled eggs are resting currently.

My incubator is in our third (and totally unnecessary) full bathroom. We'll probably turn it into a storage area, because what small one story house needs three full baths?? Anyhoo, there are no windows and the door stays shut. Since there are two other bathrooms, no one goes in there except me to check on the incubator.
