well I did it and it worked, but I will say it isn't a good idea, since they are fragile the first week. so everyone else will tell you (wisely) to wait a few more days
I've learned not to candle (if I can help it) before 7 days on chickens. I've also learned how to candle w/o removing the eggs from the bator so it is really fast and doesn't disturb anything. My goal is to candle 1x between day 7 - 10 and then again before lockdown. Or skip the last one if necessary. It's hard to control myself!

This is so correct but hard to do!

I have to

every once in a while to keep from candling too much....Remember to use your nose though and for the first couple of weeks watch for seeping eggs.

That's the way I do it. For some reason the hatch a longs make it harder not to candle, at least for me.

I typically candle the whole incubator once a week when I put new eggs in. I set one of 3 trays every week, moving to hatcher for each group.

At day 7, I through out obviously glowing yellow clears if any and remove bloodrings. Anything questionable I leave in. Typically can see nice veining in the good ones.
At day 14, I check and toss any not developing while I'm loading up the day 0s and checking the days 7s. That way when I go to move them to the hatcher, I just move them over at day 18.

Works for me, anyway. Great hatchability this spring thus far.

Ughhh!!! Last night I noticed the humidity gauge was too low. I added some water still not moving so put more in and went to bed. This am it was still at 20% So decided to try the humidity guage from the nest incubator. ..it read 60% I hope they will be ok???????? There were a few viable ones that were definitely growing. They are on day #8... :'(

Didn't think I would be able to join as I already have my incubator full but I have worked out a way to free up space for 6 eggs. So I will be collecting from my green egg layers and will join you in setting tomorrow :D
