The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I had a successful hatch just a few weeks ago. My only thought is that I am tilting it instead of opening and tilting the eggs, but that should not affect the thermostat itself.

I'm hoping the eggs are not so sensitive that an hour or so of fluctuating temps kill them off. After all, the hens don't all have the same body temp, just like humans don't.

Was it a still air or a forced air incubator? I would think the tilting the incubator wouldn't work with a still air, because of the air stratification. The only thing I can think of for forced air would be that maybe the thermostat mechanism doesn't adjust properly if it is tilted?

Impulsive Farmer...I am from the same county as you...long ago. Still visit there every summer to see all of our family! Beautiful country there! The lake, Midway, the farms, etc...gorgeous and if we could have jobs there, we'd move back. We each grew up there...

I just moved here about 2 years ago now. My husband's from the area and my old hometown wouldn't let us keep even a few farm animals (even though the land was right next to ag property). So we moved here, where people are a lot more farm friendly and so we could be closer to my husband's family. It's no Adirondacks, but it has it's own beauty.

I have the Eco 20 and have had 100% hatch all last year of fertile eggs, I didn't count the ones that were not fertile. I've never had to adjust it since I've started. I'm sorry you are having problems. I just candled my first ones set for the season and all are wiggly chicks they go into lockdown on Wed.
I really like my Brinsea incubators too, never had an issue or adjustment needed.

*~sigh~* I still haven't finished setting eggs. Not all that many, but my eyes were bigger than the space available under broody hens. I procured gorgeously dark BCM eggs from a local breeder and prized Penedesenca eggs from Jason: each seller gave me more than six. My broodiest hens are banties. Sparkle, currently incubating the wild turkey egg, got three eggs, Grace got four marked eggs and Monica got another four. (I have to mark the eggs for the outside girls because they are brooding in the coop in bucket nest boxes used by the whole chicken flock.) So now I am setting up a mini- Brinsea to incubate the remaining hatching eggs. When I am done, I will post photos and numbers.

I have heard good things about the R-Com incubators and that they don't need adjustment.
Yes I also have Rcom 20 pro incubators. The Brinsea incubators are going in the trash. They killed very expensive eggs (Ayam Cemani and English Orps, some worth $200 each) twice in a row. Good thing I split some of the batches of eggs up and put them in my Rcom and Genesis incubators.

Be careful with yours. One minute it was 99.5 and then 20 minutes later (no touching, turning, opening, etc.) it was 102+. I am glad the Brinsea incubators work for you but I just lost over $2000 in eggs.

Oh by the way, let's lower the count by 12 since my horrible Binsea incubator just cooked my eggs.

I'm sorry you had an issue. I never have, been using for several years.
