Oh what a beautiful morning!!!

We woke up to our foster cat Princess' 5 newly born kittens!!!! She did it all by herself and they are so precious!

5!!

She is letting them nurse, but got restless and shifted around so we would pet her when we went in the room where she is.She got up and babies dropped off her and ended up behind her when she turned around so we pet her..then she settled down again.. She was insistently pushy about that yesterday and I thought maybe she was just very uncomfortable. Understandably so! But I hope she stays put with them and ignores us pretty much soon. Should we leave her be, have alone time, today...I want those babies to have her full attention and proper beginning.Any advice from you experienced kitten folks? There are 2 dilute orange and whites, 2 gray and whites, and 2 dark gray with little white hairs over the top...like shimmery icing over the gray. I know the answer to this...but did she make them by herself? They are just her colors...gray, dilute orange, and white...lol

Here they are:

Ok, so I have my own temperature dilemma, and it is NOT with my thermometer, which I have double checked with a medical thermometer. I have an older LG Styrobator WITH Fan and I am using the auto turner. It is the older style turner with all the little plastic individual egg holders that snap into metal turning rails on the turner. Anyway, I have my thermometer (which is a digital indoor/outdoor with probe) rigged up so the probe end has 5 threads tied to it and running out the 4 corners of the top of the styrobator and one out the middle front. This way I can gently pull the threads from the outside and move the probe around to test different areas of the incubator without opening it!

SO, my problem is that now that my 49 eggs are set and up to temp, I am STILL getting large differences in temp from the front to the back corners of the 'bator. For example, I tested it again this afternoon, and on TOP of the eggs, in the Front left corner of the 'bator (with "back" being where the plugs go out and the turner motor is located), the temp registered 101.8º F, but at the same time (or within a minute or two as I moved the probe back) the BACK left corner, again on TOP of the eggs, registered at 98.6ºF!!! If I rest the probe in the middle of the left side, it shows 99.5ºF, again on top of the eggs. This is supposed to be a circulating air incubator, I hear the fan running, WHY are the temps so different???

Will this be ok for the eggs? I plan to switch all the eggs to opposite locations in the 'bator when I candle at day 7, but should I do that again sooner, like on day 3 or 4, and then again on day 7, and so on?

i am catching up but i thought i will add a comment

sorry if it is too late

the thermostat will turn the heating element on and off and cause temp fluctuations. you need to check each spot for a couple of on-off cycles

How did you install an electronic thermostat? Where did you find a thermostat? I have 2 LGs I'd like to try that with. I always have terrible hatches with them. So frustrating!

i prefer the model called the STC-1000

it has a seperate heat and cool cycle
some of the others have a delay of ten seconds for the single cycle that you can chose to heat or cool - ideal for compressor motors but not for incubators

the wiring below is for 220 european but just buy a 110v and use 110 wiring - i use an extension chord and cut it - t plug the still air bator in it with the original thermostat set on "cook"

the added pc fan turns a cheap lg or farm innovators into a very stable and reliable bator

the controller was put into a plastic external hard drive box later

Yes lots of fertile eggs. But I kinda freaked out when there was no air cell. I did go back and look at a couple from the top and could see air cell. You have to understand I don't have a clue about hatching eggs. Thanks Ron and Sally for the help. If you have a good link for candling that would be great, because I didn't know to look from the top!

Someone may have helped you by now (I'm trying to catch up on 130+ posts since last night), but I just wanted to tell you that I never have good luck seeing anything when candle from the top or bottom to see veining. I always candle with the egg laying sideways on the top of my hand/flashlight.

So I have a family emergency and am flying to Colorado in the morning. I put 100 plus eggs into lock down this evening. Candled as I went they are all close to pipping internally already. Not sure how long I will be gone but will most likely miss the hatch. Leaving my kids to watch out for the chicks and also to turn the 388 eggs for Easter. Hopefully they do as they should. This will not be a good trip. Please pray for my family.

Feel free to PM me if you need any assistance while here, I live in Pueblo and work halfway to Colorado Springs. Sorry to hear of bad news.

Not even a full week into incubation yet, this feels like it is going to take forever! When did 3 weeks ever get so long?
