I have to have alot of wood cause DH wants to do a log cabin type coop but its 40x8 (split in 3).I will definitely link it here. It rained so the start is a bit slow.Holy WoodnessWoman!! Dont forget to give us link to the thread!
Since we have some kitty people on here...
I have a small issue. Night, my cat who had 5 kittens this morning, has not dried them or herself. The placentas are still attached. Can I cut the cords? If so, how far from their stomachs? Do I need to do something to limit blood flow? Disinfect? I have no iodine but have triple antibiotic some place. I really have never had a cat this dumb to having babies.
ETA: Night lost a lot of weight during pregnancy. She was already a small cat - an Asian body type - and now her hips and back bone are sticking out. I am actually afraid she may not be able to nurse these kittens. She did bag up a little, but not a lot. I was going by that for when she was due. I knew it was soon, but she didn't really have enough milk - especially for 5 kittens!
BTW - Night is a blue calico. Looks like we have one orange, two blacks a blue tabby and either a black or blue calico.
My easter hatch was a total failure. I've already ended mine... 0 have/will hatch. All three goose eggs were clear, and all but two rouen eggs were clear. The last two quit, visible at the second candling.
No feet issues... not that i really saw.. didnt want to handle her too much. I just picked her up and did a quick once over to see if everything is ok.. looks good.. and yes this hatch is complete!! 14/17 hatched! I wasnt expecting more than 6 or 7! haha!I am glad!! and she has no feet issues! I know its hard to not fret for sure! This hatch is complete then?
BYC 2014 Easter Hatch-a-long
Creative Brooder Contest!
I've always have used card board boxes to brood my chicks, as the chicks grew I would tape a couple of boxes together.
When I began to hatch more and more, it became more difficult to keep enough boxes on hand. I would have to go to the store, the sales person would ask me if they could help me. I'd say yes, I need something that comes in a box that will hold about 2 dozen chicks.
Some boxes collected for 2014 hatching.
Please help me and show us your brooders!

I hear you. I had a chipmunk hibernating in my attic much of the winter. Right above the master bedroom. I've only bantam chickens & quail atm, we've plenty of field mice here as well but I doubt the birds would even hunt them. *sigh*

Last is the porous egg. It is about the same size as the others and just as active but Im concerned that I can't see an eye spot.
Just make sure if you use metal cans that they do NOT sit on cement. Even if indoors. Cement is very porous, can wick water upwards & will rust the bottoms. Put them on wood blocks off the ground.ya that's the plan, they are in storage at the moment, and i haven't dug them out yet
