Wednesday.

I agree, 1 rooster to 9 hens is not too many. Is he a young or old rooster? He's obviously not getting the job done.
He is not old maybe 1-1/2 years old. I have watched him have a go at the girls and he definitely favors the RIR over the EE, so that may be part of the problem. The girls are just now about a year old (14 months old). I definitely have no problems with roosters. Bought 13 chicks this year and definitely have 2 Cuckoo Marans roos and pretty sure 2 of the 5 Barnyard Mixes are roos - thinking possibly Australorp mixes, 5 pretty sure are pullets ( 2 CM, 3 BYM), and 4 not sure of sex yet (2 App Spitzhaubens, 1 polish, and 1 Mottled Houdan). Oh and forgot 2 peeps in the house 1 GLW pullet and 1 EE I hatched (no clue yet on sex) and 4 waiting to hatch this week maybe.

So I will have 29 total maybe - 5 definite roos and will have to decide who gets to stay.

This week's to do list for Mrs Oz:

Have coop three cleaned out and re-littered for the 3 week old "kano" chicks coming out of the brooder.
Add 10lb hanging feeders to all coops.
Clean out pipe feeders and fill them all with crushed oyster shells.
On 8"x8" squares of plywood, paint the number for each coop to aid communication.

Build the grow out nipa hut and pen
Have the chainsaw guy mill the new logs as well as have him try and get as many 1x4 boards out of the left overs of the big log.

Set quail, chukar, guinea on Wednesday morning.
Set chicken eggs on Saturday 6pm.

What is she going to do on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday? Friday She flies to USA

Nice! What breeds are you hatching this time around?

So far BCM, SPR, BO, WFS are out. A seriously problemed hatch. Final nail in its coffin was the new guy (and Mrs Oz) not knowing to empty dehumidifier so 10-14 days of hatch ran at 70+%. My HAL will be the same. I will be happy with 15% hatch rate

Since this is my first time incubating, I'm wondering - does *everyone* see eggs wiggling or hear chirping before hatch day? Or is that more of a rare occurrence? So excited for this weekend to come! Although I still have to set up my brooder and get that ready. Otherwise I have all my supplies I think. OH except I need a bottle to screw on my nipple waterer and figure out how to hang that. Also need to get some puppy pads and make sure I have enough paper towel for the first day or two.

How's everyone else getting ready for hatching this weekend?

It is the norm to hear chirping and see wiggling (if you watch enough, and you will). What are you hatching?

ETA. You could miss it, and at first you won't be certain.

Bout the same, cleaning the brooder, trying to figure out how to divide it for a while, I have two 3 week old chicks in there now, plus if any of the 4 left hatch. Will have to go out to another heat bulb, broke the other one yesterday when I got it out

. Thinking seriously about building a dedicated hatcher - just because I like to build stuff, no other reason (at least that is what I told the DH and DS's)
