You know, my local "Convenience Center"...where we take our trash...has chest freezers, refrigerators, ovens, dryers, washing machines, etc. all the time. I wonder if I could convince my hubby to bring one home???? Hehe.

Quote: I would use it as a root cellar first!!!Many other options suitable for an incubator, but not for a root cellar. Just sayin'
A cooler bator and an LG hatcher keeps me in too many chicks-- just ask DH!!I can set eggs 3 deep in the cooler bator and that's a lot of eggs. Just be sure to date w/ set date because oops I"ve missed a few and they hatch in the cooler bator!
Ooooo, I'm going to be looking at all my appliances as future incubators!!!I am working on converting a dishwasher. I am going to trick this one out. I am borrowing an idea from another BYCer of using a reptile humidifier to control the humidity precisely. That will add $60 to the cost but the precision that it provides is worth it. Won't have it done by Easter, maybe Cinco de Mayo

Perfect little chick pictures. Before owning chickens I thought all chicks looked the same. Oh brother.....over a year in and my head spins with all of the varieties. I am not only eyeballing Marrunda Basque but now South American chickens. It never ends....what about those Icelandics....they are looking very interesting as well.
I like the idea of the root cellar too.....That's a brilliant idea!!!
I have an old fridge that doesn't work; I could use it!!! I was thinking of using it as a root cellar (I've heard of burying them on their back, then you've got a place to store food in winter), but I like the incubator idea better!!!
I've got to see a chicken breeder about a fridge!
