I'm hatching for Easter but will setting my eggs early, so that I will be able to sell them the Saturday before Easter.
Ya'll have fun with the hatch-a-long.

Its to cold my chickens are yelling at me lol

"How do you expect me to lay eggs in weather like this"

My girls haven't stopped yelling about the cold yet. The SLW and Bantys are on strike. The say no eggs until we hit 50+.

I had 1 above 50 day in the past 2 months and all of them laid that day. They're lucky my house chickie gives me enough eggs for a couple sandwiches a week.

Dick Horstman has SLW Hatching Eggs.....Google Horstman's Poultry. He's very reasonable & from what they say very reputable.

This is so true that Dick is very reasonable and reputable. I had bought some eggs from him a couple of years back. They came, and they were a mess, I mean a mess! More than half were either broken or cracked. I took photos of them for Dick to see. Right away, more eggs were off to me..I waited, and waited and waited. Too far out, he says..I'm sending you some chicks. I got a box full of chicks, all were healthy..little Silver Pencil Rocks...
I have a photo somewhere of one that is older. Very pretty. Those dates are wrong..that old camera..
Anyway, Dick didn't have to do this for me, but he made sure I was a satisfied customer. He has beautiful birds. :)

They are on my wish list.....

Preliminary basic plans ( working on directions )
Incubator Plans:

Material;
7/16" Playwood ( Home depot or Lows will cut to size for free )
1" X 2" ( for holding turners )
6" fan 120v
8" metal duct or coffee can (metal )
Incubator heating element (or alternative heat source )
2-Wafer thermostats ( con use 1 but I use 2 for protection against failure )
Power cord.
Wire nuts
2" X 2" drip edge flashing (meant for metal roofing )

Will look like this when finished:
That's looking great!

Today is day 21 for 32 ee eggs. Just left for work with 12 pips. Any guesses on how many chicks when I get home?
5 out when you get home, with many more on the way!

Oh how the time is going by so slow for me to start this incubation! I want to put eggs in the bator NOW and I can't!! Winter just keeps dragging on, Norovirus is running rampant in my house (youngest son had it first...took 12 days for him to be normal again...then it hit my mom, then my eldest son, and then my husband. Mom, eldest son, and hubby still sick). The puppies are driving me NUTS

and I still have 2 weeks before they can go to their new homes.

To make matters worse, the local TSC got SLW chicks in and I couldn't buy any...because my brooder needs to stay empty until this hatch-a-long's babies are born. And I can't find ANYONE who has SLW eggs for me to buy local or to trade for my mixed flock fertile eggs to put in the batch to be hatched.

Calgon, take me away!!!!!
Yes, time to set day has slowed to crawl. I hope your family all gets well soon.

It is not an exact thing. The rule of thumb has to do with setting them before or after 12 noon. Before and the set day counts, after and the set day does not count.

The important thing is to candle on day 7 for air sell size. I often candle on day 10 to remove clears, blood rings and early quitters.

We need to practice patience with hatching. There is not much we can do but make sure our incubator is doing it's work for us.

I think Tyson wins.
That's probably a good guess, I was thinking maybe some of the hatcheries.
