I think I saw here earlier that someone recommended adding vinegar to the water in the incubator well to keep in from getting gross. Does anyone know how much is a good amount?  tbs/gal? or more?

Vinegar is a cool idea. I'm trying the penny method, right now...the theory behind putting a penny into the well is that copper ionizes the water and kills bacteria. I had quite a time finding one from before 1982. I've got a 1979 in there! Luckily my husband keeps a bunch on his desk. We hunted for an hour :p

I use unactivated oxine in the water in my incubators. It has worked really well so far!

That will be perfect then. Do everything just like you do for chicks except about 15% higher humidity for lockdown. Ducks also hatch more slowly & could take a whole 3 days from pip to hatch. Don't try to help too soon!

So in other words, I'm going to be a basket case for 3 days, huh? That's just lovely.

I will change my Avatar to one with me in it soon.

Does anyone else want to also?

I like "selfie" avatars. Makes me feel like I'm an actual person, not just a screen name. :)

Well, apparently I'm not normal.

Just had a discussion with my mom regarding my chickens. My son's cat went after one of my hen's today...Mama caught her in the act. I asked her if the hen was ok, she said yes...the cat didn't get any claws in her and made enough racket to spook kitty away. I made a comment about the cat (named Cinnamon) going on a little trip if she hurts one of my chickens. I love my chickens, even more so than my doelings (two Boer cross goats 9 months old). I don't know why, I just do.

She looked at me like I was nuts.

This is one of the many reasons why I love you guys here on this forum so much. Because we are all residents of the same nut house full of chicken lovers!!!
