jbenson has homemade rainbow layers! A mix of big and small breeds that lay different colors of eggs. Penny Hen gave advice on getting Sexlinked Black Barred OEs! (olive egg laying hens). Later, we learned that DH is an enabler—Loth of eggs will be hatched this year!
I want a bunch of different colors of eggs too!!! I need some blue layers.
I need your DH to talk to mine; he tries not to get involved, except to promote common sense. I try to tell him that I have chicken sense, but he insists, so I listen.

I have bantam blue layers and I am breeding them with a blue gene roo and a light brown gene roo to get more blue layers and green layers. They are laying pretty well so I'm hoping to sell some of the eggs as hatching eggs to those who would also like blue and green layers. Fertility has been pretty good since the parent flock are all a year old only. The batch I have in the bator right now are doing great as of day 7 candle last night.

QUESTION...

After the HATCHALONG is well underway do you all want to do the HATCHALONG Participants ONLY Random Funny Posting Contest AGAIN THIS YEAR or something different?

Random Funny Posting Contest

CONTEST last year WAS here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...dom-funny-posting-contest-saturday-march-23rd

AND we had HATCHALONG PARTICIPANTS do all of the donating of prizes?
SEE FIRST PAGE OF THAT LINK of what we all donated and won!
I thought it was awesome and so many prizes!

New ideas are ALWAYS welcome!

speak up!

THIS IS FOR Y'all RIGHT!
I would totally donate some of my project Rainbow Layer bantam project eggs to this.

LL

So cute and tiny. .

Nice day out today, no rain or snow. Went out, DH changed a tarp on one of the runs..it got ruined during all of our windy days through the winter, and I cleaned out the nursery coop, and put those babies in another coop/run, and took two from the house and put them in the clean nursery. Ahh, nice to get that done :)

I have a hatching problem, I admit it. But this is one where I can join in and use the "But these are Birthday Chickens!" excuse as my birthday will be shortly after the hatch date. No one can stop me now!

Haven't decided if I'll hatch some EEs from my birds for fun or find some nice Maran or Dorking eggs I've been wanting to try. Guess I better get on it :)
You can hatch your own eggs anytime. If these are special Birthday Chickens, splurge and get the maran or dorking eggs.

I believe that number is taken.

Bawahhhahahahaha

Lol! I'd certainly think that if there were a bigger one, one of us would have joined in by now. So, yes, I think you're perfectly safe making that statement with confidence!
You hit that nail on the head lol

its freeeeeezing here again :(

I know there has been some discussion on different candling methods. This is the flashlight that my husband bought me for Christmas. It is the only thing I have found to show development in marans eggs. I have even been able to see veins in some of the eggs. But definately development. Warning...Do not look into the light, you will see spots for days lol.

Also, it is bigger than it looks and you need to block some of the light to candle.
