416 posts I have to catch up on...so before I do, I just wanted to pop in and say hello

The woman I was going to get duck eggs from for this hatch a long is not going to be able to provide me with any before I set. Her female has not laid an egg in 2 weeks...so I guess I'll just be doing chickens. At least I have more room for chicken eggs !!!

I can picture this!! In honor of the pics or it didn't happen....I ventured outside for proof, I had a photo bomber who was not very subtle. I also learned after viewing the pics that the dye was not applied evenly....hmmmm trying to see this as a 'good' thing. Oh well... Ron, you still got the number for the person who 'fixed' your daughter's hair?

Yay!! I'm so excited! Just finished constructing my homemade incubator and I'm still in the process of building my automatic egg turner! I'll be setting 1 dozen mixed breed duck eggs on the 22nd! The mix includes runners, rouens, blue/black Swedish, cayugas, and appleyards!

The first Ancona from my flock has hatched!

I hatched my parent stock last spring from eggs from @sarasweatman . The babies hatching now are the first from those babies. Sara, your duckies have a grandbaby!!!

Can I join in here? I've been considerring setting my RSL eggs that started laying about a week ago. this is great incentive to go ahead and fire up the incubator!

I bought a trio of delawares to get some eggs for the hatch along but i think they are eating their eggs because i see them setting in their nest box then i go check later and nothings there. Today i put a golf ball in the nest and they attacked it immediately. Is there any ways to stop them from doing this???

I agree with the help you have recieved, keep in mind, the golf balls or ceramic eggs are to not only teach them where to lay, it also lets them peck at them and think they cannot be broken and they get bored at trying to eat eggs, I always keep ceramics in our nest boxes JUST IN CASE, our White faced had an eater but the eggs quickly resolved our issues! It hurts the beak to try to peck and peck a ceramic egg LOL

Yes that is very true!

I learned from the best.

It probably is that they are getting used to their new environment. But this weekend me and my dad are going to build a new coop so they will be moved again next week.

Hope it all works out for you by the set date. I love Delawares. I have 4 right now and hope to hatch a bunch more this season. Where did you get your birds?

He showed one of them and did good. I know him so he sold them to me cheaper. I paid $30 for the trio which is a great price for any trio of chickens.

I can't wait to start hatching this year. Once i start i can't stop until my birds quit laying.

I think I missed class the day the teacher taught this--- I can only do the middle one is 11. If there is a method-- I can't do it.

I hope everyone is having a good Friday so far. DH is out collecting more maple sap today. We are going to boil it all down on Sun I think. MMMMM more syrup.
