Come on little chickies! I REALLY need to get to bed but I'm so excited now I doubt I could sleep. But if I sleep the time will seem to go by faster and maybe I'll wake to a chickie....decisions decisions...I am actually pretty tired...ok bed it is. Fingers crossed for chicks and more pips in the am.

Unlike mammals, the hen determines the sex of her offspring.

17 degrees here now. Hopefully this is the last hard freeze.

I found some interesting items for you hatchaholics.

Here's a usb data logger for temp, humidity. The less expensive one is accurate to ±1F and 3% humidity
The more expensive one is accurate to ±0.6F and humidity ±2%
After your hatch you can track your temperature and humidity throughout incubation.

For those with a separate incubator and hatcher, this one is a two channel thermocouple with alarm. It's accurate to within 0.2% so I take that to mean at 100F, it's accurate to ± 0.2F

Ah well I guess I'll just wait....

Argh, I want another incubator and some eggs to arrive in the mail, so badly. I am quickly being sucked into the addiction of hatching, a Hatch-A-Holic as they call us.

It will be here soon.

Panthers are not technically a species. The term panther refers most often to black leopards and black jaguars, which are actually just melanistic individuals. Panthera is the genus of large cats. The Florida Panther is really a puma and is the same color as a mountain lion.
In what state did your friend see these? Possibly melanistic puma? Where I live in Southern CA, black jaguars have been seen. They are more common in Mexico and South America.

Ok, let me clarify what my friend told me then. She told me of huge black cats (Panthers) roaming around where she lives. They had some big cat take their German Sheppard a few years back. That is what she told me anyhow.

Talequah, Oklahoma or somewhere around those parts is where they have been seen. Of coarse the forestry dept. and G.C. deny that they exist ( just like they deny that there are any mountain loins in PA ). I knew that they were a melonistic product of the original breed (weather it be mtn lion, jaguire, or leopard) its just that most ppl refer to them as Panthers, I guess to distinguish the coloring of the cat. Supposedly they are having more and more problems in OK with large cats taking animals, a lot of people are starting to worry more about their children. I know my friend will not let her kids play out in the yard unless someone is out there with them with a loaded gun.

I am feeling 100% better thank you. :) I ate raw garlic for a few days and could really tell the difference. I am so glad we all are chatting online and not in person because I would have chased ppl away with my breath. :gig

About 24 eggs from my pre-HAL test hatch are on day 18 and moving into the hatcher tonight. (Clears out some more space in the incubator for the HAL.
wink.png
) Salmon Faverolles, Barred Rocks and BYMs hatching this weekend. Eggs are looking good with lots of movement:

In other news: One of my goats is showing signs of kidding today and another is imminent. Looking forward to a weekend of cute, fuzzy babies!
