I'm definitely dealing with marek's in my flock. My question now is, if I choose to hatch the eggs I'm receiving and have them vaccinated at hatch, as long as they are properly vaccinated and quarentine them ptoperly can I sell them?

You can sell them. All chickens get Mareks.

You need to vaccinate them withing 24 hours. Some say you need to vaccinate again at something like 10 weeks old too.

The vaccine is only good for a short amount of time when you activate it so you have to work fast!

Update on my incubator temps:
They are much better this morning. Right now (13 hours after set), two of my temp gauges are showing 100, one 99.7. So I'm happy at this point. I'll watch to make sure they don't go up much more than that.

I really appreciate the encouragement from all the night owls!

I was going to silicone, but it works well so I didnt bother, I just make sure the probe is in the middle of it.

We had discussed somewhere if oil would be a better liquid to use, thoughts and suggestions, something that wont go bad obviously ha ha ha
Very clever.
I wonder if packing the probe in a ball of silicone would work.

.Im using my grandmas incubator circa mid-1950s.... i let it run for 5 days and adjusted the thermostat (holy confusing!!!) but it worked and according to my digital thermometer/hydrometer its hunky dory comfy cosey

I set eggs that are due to hatch April 5th (out of pure excitement... forgetting the March 29th set date). NOW... heres my question if i set another dozen (there's plenty of room) will it compromise anything? I currently have cheese cloth under the eggs that are set now for "easier clean up" which I suppose is my main concern. :-( help/opinions please

Very cool. I'd like to see a picture.

I mean after I guess lol if I am right or not

I dunno if I am good at chick identification, since this is my first surprise eggs!
For surprises, sometimes they need to be half grown.

Congrats!

I know Cabinet incubators can have eggs incubating above, and eggs hatching on the bottom. I can't imagine it would hurt the eggs too much - you don't know until you try! Especially if your dad said he did it successfully.

Yay!

Is that your final number, or are you still adding more?
When I haven't kept good records I've had chicks start hatching in the cabinet before I got them into the hatcher. Luckily it didn't create any problems.

Eggs

Don’t skip the yolk! They contain lutein, an antioxidant usually associated with sharp eyesight. But having lower levels of lutein in your brain is linked with mild cognitive impairment. Two eggs also provide 250 mg of choline, a good-for-your-noggin B vitamin that helps maintain brain-cell structure. Plus, their high-quality protein and fat can keep you full so you can focus on the task at hand. Worried about eggs’ cholesterol? People who ate seven per week didn’t have higher levels of heart disease or stroke, according to a 2012 meta-analysis published in BMJ.
Egg yolk is the best brain food.
There's speculation that the fear of cholesterol over the years has affected mental health.

Really!? The Really long skinny ones are ok to incubate?
They'll incubate but perhaps you don't want to breed the offspring from them.

Hawaii but reports have been better lately.
HI is strict on so many things but small islands need to be.

There really was only one egg completely broken, another crushed in but the membrane intact. However, I bought a dozen and a dozen arrived intact, so I'll take it. :) Some mild to moderate air cell damage, but all in all they look reasonably good for the apparent journey they took.

Hope I get a few chicks out of these!
Doesn't look like a great pack job. What was your opinion when you opened the box?

I think I had the temp a little high as the hatch was 2 days early. Im using a Still air LG. I read for still air temps should be 101 to 103 so I kept it at 102. No real temp spikes so don't think that was an issue. The humidity level was was around 40% during incubation. Then for lock down I raised it to 71% but 5 hatched the next day and 2 the following day and nothing for the next 4 days. Any ideas?
Good analysis. Make sure you're getting the temp at the top of the egg. That will mean the middle of the egg is at 99.5.

LOL I have a small one story house with 3 bathrooms and wouldn't have it any other way. I couldn't imagine not having 3. We are a fam of 5 (4 of us being girls). DH wanted to knock down the 3rd bathroom off the kitchen to gain more space in the garage I said "NO WAY!" lol.
We had 3 baths in a condo we lived in. Now we have a big 110 year old house with 1 and 1/2 bath. Really the one is so small it's more like 1/4. A toilet, sink and barely room to turn around. Originally the house only had 1. That was an adjustment for a family of 4.

Okay i am a little confused the first post says to set chicken eggs on Saturday March 29th? today is Saturday 28th should i be setting them on Sunday the 29th? Just want to be clear so i don't miss setting my eggs! Thank you :)
Yes, you're confused but don't feel bad, it happens to me all the time.

...I had to do a repair on one my last hatch. It even had a little chunk pushed in but it hasn't punctured the membrane so I decided to use fingernail polish. I didn't expect it to make it, but it did!

Good to know. I've mended with beeswax before and wasn't successful.
I may have to borrow some polish from my daughter. She's out of the country for 3 months so she won't know the difference.

While you wait anxiously for set time, help me name my favorite NYD chick. She's an EE - cream with purple, black, and grey markings. Very calm disposition. She's my favorite, and it's time she had a name.
