Can I still join? I set some eggs on the 28. They are guinea eggs, so i know I set them a little late for them to hatch on Easter.

That is a nice candling picture!

the egg is a bit porous but I have hatched egg like that with no problem.

The yolk looks normal--from a healthy well fed flock!

Thanks! My brown egg looks porous, too. What makes them that way? It was much harder to see yolk in that one, but I did finally see a shadow -- can't really see it in the pic.

Hey everyone! I am currently waiting on a chick to hatch. It's been about 19 hours and there is only a small hole where the chick first started piping. It is alive, moving, and chirping it's head off but it doesn't really seem to be trying to get out. Should I start chipping away at it's shell and try not to hurt them membrane or just leave it alone?

We are absolutely brand new to all of this! We just "set" 22 eggs yesterday from a variety of chickens. My friend is trying to help us get started, and we would love to join in! Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

Go back a couple of pages and read what Sally Sunshine posted..the longer post.

Well, that's a plus that his mouth was empty.
Yes it was a plus that his mouth was empty, there are so many foxes on this farm. I try to keep the numbers down. Last year I had a breeding pair of Khaki Campbell ducks and I just got home around noon and saw a fox grab my hen and I ran inside quickly and then shot the fox and the duck lived for a week normally then just died. I guess from internal injuries.

Well, life got really crazy, and I forgot to find eggs, and then I forgot to set eggs yesterday. So as of right now I have no eggs dues to hatch for Easter. I am going to scramble and try to get some to put in today.

Good luck, you have until tomorrow. Find some!
