I hear cheeping, and 1 has pipped. Two of them rolled their eggs out of position when they were rocking. Do I try to candle, and reposition them, or will they find the larger part of the air sac on their own?

Do not open the incubator, unless you're going to assist a hatch. You will cause them to shrink-wrap! They'll find their positions again.

I think I'm gonna head that way, myself. After all the rain we had this week I was busy today with coop chores I didn't get to and yard cleanup. Our new pup, Razz shredded the old couch we keep on the porch for Daisy (our elderly dane) so there was stuffing alllll over the dog yard. I still have two roosters who are intent on trying to kill each other, two other roosters who are going away to freezer camp (including my Diego) next week and hens who are upset that we finished the fence. What IS it with chickens and roads anyway?
I did get Wisher's flowers dug, though. I'll spend all this week dividing and moving daylilies and peonies and digging out my faux creek bed so that I can connect my ponds. It's not easy digging in the garden with chicken toes always getting in the way. I have to be careful. They have to scratch in the soil I turn.

All I have to do is pick up a shovel, pitchfork or the "claw" and the girls come running. If I'm moving bricks or rocks around they have to be there to look under each and every one. Nosy things.

Maddy got to mark off the first day on her hatch-a-long calender. That was cool. She tells all the eggs goodnight before going upstairs to bed.

I got something like this, may even be the same one, and wired it in. There were downloadable wiring directions. Used some of those plastic wire twist caps and some electrical tape, I wired in a fan, too, picked up a nice little computer fan for each of them. Temps got a LOT more stable for me...then I got the cabinets and haven't looked back. LOL, I wired up 2 foam bators and a little two tray homemade incubator with them right before that, but certainly don't need to run them now. At least, not yet!

Sorry, I can't give you more detailed directions, would have to just look back at the wiring directions, but it was pretty straightforward.
One of my LG's went on the fritz today, and won't hold temp. DH and I were talking about getting a digital electronic thermostat from incubator warehouse. The one they were showing is around $49.00. Thank you for the info, and link. We will get a couple of these, and get them wired up pronto. The price is much better too.

Popping by to say I'm in the game for 10 turkey eggs (set 3/22) and 66 LF chicken eggs (set 3/29). That means I finally got my paws on a wine cooler, yeah!

This will be my cabinet's maiden voyage!

(Miss Penelope is also sitting, but she started on the 29th, and since she's a turkey, I've explained to her how that just won't do!)

In case your interested, this is what I installed in my cooler bator.

It is a water heater thermostat. Not sure what kind of heating element you have but if you use one of these they measure by radiant heat. So you have to place it close to your heat source, like within 1-2 inches of the heating element. My cooler bator holds the temp directly on 99.6° f with virtually no fluxuation at all. Just thought you might want to know.

So roughly 48 hours into this (my first hatch) I have come to the realization of two things. 1.) It is practically imposible to stay caught up on these posts (thank you ron for the daily digest)((also for the suggestion to read the hatching 101 article // very informative)). 2.) I am obsessed with adjusting the temp knob on my LG forced air. (aside from the first 12 hours after i put them in I dont think I have left it alone for more than 3-4 hours). It has read anywhere from 97 up to 100. Hoping when I get home in the morning it is going to be sitting right on 99.5 but we will see.
