HA!!!! Hilarious!

One time a chicken was walking around our subdivision and my husbands brother caught it when it walked onto our driveway. We brought it in the house and put it in the bath tub for a moment while I searched for some cornbread or something to see if she was hungry. Introduced her to our dog who she pecked on the nose. And the pecking order was set in stone from then on. We decided to set her up in the backyard.. Put layer pellets and a chicken waterer out for her.. Caught the dumb dog sampling her food a couple of times. The next morning there was an egg in the dog house. Since the dog ate as many layer pellets as she did we had to guess on which one left the egg ;-). Since the dog does not use the dog house and sleeps inside we decided it was probably the hen ;-) And we should keep her. That was our first chicken ever. I think it was 8 years ago. It's been chicken math and acreage property and back again since then.

Should I even admit that the dog and the chicken both stood at the glass patio door hoping for treats but the dog waited respectfully for the chicken to come in first? I've since stopped letting my chickens in the house (for the most part).

1. They may be wobbly and will form Saddle air cells even after resting. They will still hatch but often need more hands on work.
2. It will not hurt to leave them a couple more days. Up to 5 so you can turn on the turner soon.
3. They can sit without tuning for about 8 days
4. Depending on when you set them, you may be into day 4. You can see veins on day 4
5. Shipped eggs can be the only or less expensive way to get breeds that are not in your area
6. If you follow the advice on this thread, you will have chicks for Easter!

Thanks, Ron!

Quick question about the eggs I put in lockdown yesterday. The turkey are my main priority. I put wet sponges in. Do I leave it closed or open and re wet them until I see pip?

It depends on what the humidity is inside the incubator. If the sponges are in a storage tub with water, the humidity will last several days. If not, humidity can go down in a day. If the humidity drops, you can use tubing to add water to the sponge via the event holes. Do not leave the tubing in because it can block the air exchange in the incubator.

Remember, the third most common cause of late term chick death is poor ventilation. The Chicks gotta breath!

Humidity goes up when the chicks hatch and it can go up when enough of them pip as moisture comes out of the egg and then off of the chicks.

Good Luck!

I've been warning people for a while about Brinseas.. had a bunch of them and every one had issues
Sorry you lost all those eggs.. but I can feel your pain.. I had one that kept rising in temp well over 120 and still rising.. they reside at the dump now
People tend to forget that Brinsea is in the market to sell incubators.. they are not a hatchery.. so they really don't care about your hatch rates or if their products have problems or design flaws.. so long as they make a profit they're happy.....

I love my coolerbators!
I am seriously considering making one of my own design, maybe using a reptile humidifier and direct contact heat. I have a theory that the current incubators are too close to being pressure cookers.

What a day and now I need to play catch up!!

Had to run Little one to urgent care and they sent him to ER for IV and tests for possible appendicitis, Thank GOD for test results showing not an appendix issue, he was sent home with unknown illness and with antibiotics and a check up tomorrow, is labs were bad, white bloods up and a ton of other things. Still high fevers but at least the motrin brings it down. I am not sure the hospital was a good deal or a bad, look how dirty that place is, I dont feel like I need to clean my house now! Good grief, this was our room at entrance in the ER Pediatrics!!! see image below!

We finally brought him home to rest and I checked that egg I posted the video of is pipped YAY for that at least, image below. I never got to the post office to mail the chicks out

It doesnt work and we opened it and the battery is corroded to the point of RUSTING as is the internals on the spot check! NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!
I pray the day ends better than it has started! Now off to get to my messages and then read a zillion threads to catch up!
