I am finishing up the fourth hatch this year for UofA Blues and Crele Pene x UofA Blues Olive eggers. The UofA Blues hatch over two days! the first two hatched Friday afternoon. This afternoon, Sunday and day 23, four eggs were left after the last pipped egg hatched. I candled them and found one still alive, so I poked a hole in the big end of the egg. An hour ago I saw that it was zipping a bit below the half way point of the eggs, so I set it onto the bottom of the incubator.

The chick is almost out now!

The pip in the big end is all the help usually give them.

This is a local pickup. egg turner was on the entire time. incubation was about 40% humidity on average and temperature was 99.5 to 99.9. The UofA eggs are bigger than a lot of blue egg layers and they are nice and round so even an upside down chick can hatch in them.

Now to hope for the chick to be ok when it hatches!

This is great news!

I need some help with what I saw when candling tonight. It's Day 8, because I was out of town this weekend. This is my first time incubating and have had some trouble stabilizing the temp and humidity, especially since our outside temp has gone from one extreme to the other, then back again.

Out of 40 eggs set, 24 had embryos and most were moving, 8 were questionable (most too dark to see), 6 looked like maybe blood rings, and I think 2 were clear.

Is this a clear?

And is this a blood ring?

Is this a quitter?

And does this look about right for air cell size or do I need to adjust humidity? It got down pretty low.

And I should leave them in or go ahead and take the ones with rings out? Thanks so much for all the help!!!
the aircell looks fine

The top one is a clear

Give the one with the weird vein some time. It may be ok.

Leave the last one too.

On day 8, leave all of them unless they smell. They can fool you at this point!

Is your incubator a still air or with a fan? 102 isn't a big deal, don't worry about it. Did your outside temperature change dramatically? I've had to adjust mine because we went from daytime temps of 50's to 75 today.

She has a still air..

Yes, don't worry. It's ok. I see 102 on mine once in a while. Remember, tomorrow is going to be in the 60's tomorrow. If I recall, you have the bator in the basement..does it stay about the same down there? If so, if the eggs are feeling more warm than you think they should..you are a pro now..this is your second time hatching..lol...anyway, just tweek..tweek..the knob down a bit. See what that does if it is staying up around 102. And, you don't need that much humidity. Just fill one of those wells. You should be fine. It will feel steamy, but that's ok too. One well is great. Should be around the mid 30's with that one filled.

The last chick is out!

The chick is not sticky, the feet look good. It is on it's stomach and moving around normally. No Wry neck either!

I do have pictures of some of them from this afternoon. I have 20ish from this hatch. They are Blue genetica so I have Blue, Splash and Black. The UofA X Crele Pene OEs are either black or black with a white spot. This time It looks like I have a blue one with a white spot!

My loving husband bought me a new flashlight to candle with it works great. The egg with the blood ring got thrown out tonight, was not on purpose yet. Showed my daughter so she would beware and to upset since it was a egg she picked out, after I put it down she picked it up and we collided and it got dropped. I will probably throw out the other one tomorrow that has no development pretty sure it is just a yolk. The other 5 look great though.

I have all the wells filled and its still as dry as a can be, and I have 2 reptile gauges in there and the one from Walmart and they all read the same humidity. Didn't have an issue with the last hatch with the humidity. Wondering if its because there is 40 eggs in there. But I should add that they dry out within a day too, totally odd.
Yes its in a stable room, no temp change. But I was kind of thinking it might be all the chicks in there growing making it spike. So far its still at 100, so hopefully it will stay all night long.

Advice from a hatcher....? My pip is still not going any further. It's still just an x shaped crack in the egg, no beak yet. I am starting to worry, I do hear faint peeping, but it happened at noon today and still no progress. None of the other eggs look pipped. Last time I tried an assist I was too late. Should I just wait it out? It's a Pyle leghorn.
What color is the membrane? White or brown?

^^Im having the same issue and the membrane is brown? :-( I already lost one during hatching... am i going to lose another?

Sounds good. Not sure why it seems dry to you with all of the wells filled. I personally wouldn't fill them all. Really, not needed.
