In other news, my broody is still broody. She sat on the nest all day again, and stayed there tonight when it was bed time. My husband goes to work very early, and he's going to shine a light in there in the morning and see if she's still on the nest. One of our other hens did lay an egg in the nest box (it's a community box), and my broody took it. Lol. But none of the others have laid since she went broody. So tomorrow I will move her so my other girls will start up again. Hopefully.

A week before the hatch-a-long, I had a clutch of eggs already in the incubator. Over the weekend they hatched so here's a couple videos for those waiting on their Easter ones.

Chicks are Bantam Silver-Laced Wyandottes. <3

Just want to say that next years hatch along will be much bigger for me. I will have 4-5 established flocks. Building their split coop now. It will be a 8'x40' coop split in 3 (13') sections with 13'x45' runs on each. Construction starts tomorrow.

I wish I had some broodies! They'd do a better job at this than I can!

Me too..I have a bantam cochin that hasn't gone broody yet..ever! She is a yr. old this spring. She lays every day..almost..but man, she's better at laying eggs than my sex links!

Are landscaping timbers on sale for $1.99 yet?! That's when I pick up 15-20 per week until the sale ends.

Awwwww, I suck.

I was having a bad day and went in tonight to candle one egg, just to see the little thing moving and cheer me up. I dropped it!

It was on a carpeted floor and didn't crack, but clear veins went to vague dark smear and a nice clear air cell is indistinguishable. .

I put it back in the 'bator, just in case, but

I feel so bad, now. Why did I mess with it? I just wanted to see something happy.

ozexpat, thanks for the reply! My eggs are all from my own hens, so they are used to the elevation and climate already. I put a sponge in the incubator and filled 2 channels. That brought the humidity up to 27%. Tonight I am going to tamper with it a bit more, maybe add another sponge. So far it doesn't seem like any amount of water is going to make the humidity "too high"

The amount of air flowing through the vents is pretty substantial, and this is why I'm having the humidity issues. I had to crank the heater up a bit too. Hopefully all this new airflow will be enough, but I do have a fish tank pump if I felt I needed it. The fish won't mind if I borrow it for a week, right?

BTW ozexpat- I just started reading your diary of a crazy chicken man, and am enjoying it very much!

It sounds like you've got it under control.

When I have concerns I like to weigh from the start to get to know my environment. Like Sally says, humidity is not a number.

The diary of a crazy chicken man is a long read. Its quite an adventure
