The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

It was so funny! I had the first egg ever hatch out of my Brinsea Octagon 40. I move them to a Genesis 1588 for hatching, but missed one of the UofA Blues!

I was checking on the other chicks hatching in the Genesis and heard chirping coming from the wrong place!

I looked over at the tilted brinsea and there was a chick there! leaning against the lid. I had my oldest dd hold the brinsea a bit towards level and lifted the lid--the little thing flopped out onto the table.

The chick is in the brooder under the eco glow with one side removed so the it can easily touch the heater if it wants to keep warm.

For those keeping track of humidity, the brinsea is set at 35% and the chick was not stuck at all.

The UofA Blues are very healthy chicks!

LOL..this is great. Had to be fun to find a little surprise. And your DD got to help out with it.

Lucky number 13 is the count I have going into lock down tomorrow. Had to set early, they came early.
Had to chuckle, as I was closing the lid, had one of the pretty blue ones wriggle away. Almost turned it's shell over. I saw when I candled and did the pencil marking, one actually looked like it was internally pipped. I may have an early surprise too ron. We'll see. So, hoping for babies, by Friday!
Everyone get those cameras ready! We have been waiting for the Hatch A Long babies..they will be here soon!

And the contests continue..hmmm, now I can't wait to see what that new one will be. Fun stuff.

I had to set my Easter hatch on the Friday, so lockdown for me is tomorrow. Looks like 39 of 46 will be going into the hatcher. Not bad for having 14 shipped CCL eggs that got tossed about resulting in broken eggs arriving.

Just checked this past week's set Snowflake Bobwhite Quail from shipped eggs - well over half have little red spiders in them.

Less than a week and easter chickies will be here! I'll have Iowa Blues from two different flocks and the CCLs I ordered accidentally and just sorta kinda added them to the incubator for Easter.



Now, if spring would arrive so I can finish my two additional breeder pens, I could move up the adults from the Juvenile growout pen and get my older chicks in there! Yeah, it showed today.



Spring forward, my frozen tookus...just how far did they fling it?

Yes, they are very healthy and hatch over a long time but well.

I am also hatching out Partridge Penedesencas.
