The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Don't know what's up with this hatch but my Brodie's are down to 4 project amerucana's and one frizzle. The poor ducky didn't do too well... It quit around a week in and when I opened it (didn't open until like week two when I candled the chick eggs) and it was scrambled. Fingers crossed I get some pullets out of the amerucana's.

I set mine one march 29 and i just found this can i join. I got 20 barnyard mixes in the incubator

I still have to go back and catch up on 400 posts, but I have one turkey pipping! little early? i guess i set them the earliest possible date to still be included. oh and two of the eggs from my birds are pipped as well, I had them labeled "silkie mix" initially but I have since found out that my standard sized frizzle cochin actually lays these itsy bitsy eggs, that apparently start pipping early so they are actually frizzled cochin mix. time to set up the webcam!





Haha edit to say that the eggs in the last photo are not weird shaped, the photo was taken through the lid of the incubator and it is a curved lid.

I candled, weighed and marked my eggs. Many have drawn down and my weight loss averaged 13.1%. I removed 1 clear Marans egg. So I have 20 eggs left going into lockdown. That's down only 7 from the 27 I set initially! Not bad at all for shipped eggs!!!

SO SORRY EVERYBODY, ABOUT YESTERDAY. I HAD SET UP THE EMU CAM AND THE BATOR AND WAS ALL SET TO STREAM, (THOUGH I WAS EXTREAMLY TIRED) AND MY COMPUTER JUST TOTALLY CRASHED AND NOTHING I DID COULD BRING IT BACK. I AM SO MAD

Marking air cells in prep for lock-down and I could hear chirping! Ooops- maybe I should have done lock down yesterday?

Lots of saddle shaped air cells, we shall see what hatches. Roughly 50% of the shipped eggs made it to lock down and a few I think are quitters but I left them anyway.

Our broody started 4 - 1 but I didn't count her for the EHAL because I kept taking eggs away from her.

She was getting confused and switched buckets a couple times. Each time I rescued the eggs and stuck them in a bator. Recently got her set up in a rabbit cage on the lawn (guarded by our LPD, he is so diligent over this momma). Now that I need the bators for hatching I went and stuck all of her pre-started eggs under her for safekeeping. I'll let her have a couple to hatch next Monday when I can take the eggs away and put them back in the bator.

That broody momma just ruffled her feathers and 11 eggs disappeared - like magic! She is so wide and flat it amazes me!

One way to bump humidity is to put a humidifier in the room. It has helped me a lot.
