Congrats to everyone with new chicks. I'm still waiting but had some serious humidity problems and a spike in temps with this round so my expectations are low. Can't help but have peep envy though!!

I have brooder envy...there it is out there. Apparently I am never satisfied. Couldn't wait for broodies...filled my coops with potentials mama birds and now. I am so Jelly you could spread me on toast. I want to stare dreamily into a box and watch fuzzy babies fall asleep on their feet. I want to slip them treats and make them look forward to my hands inside their home. I want to watch them as they sort out...Lord of the Flies style...who is on top of the PO. I want to have the shock of looking in the brooder and thinking they have all died b/c they are all lying in awkward poses only to have them hop up again and start running around when they hear my voice.

( pic take from http://www.everyday-vegetable-garden.com)

I want to witness the yoga wing and leg stretch and I want to laugh at the grab and chase game when they get their first meal worms. I want to be momma hen.

What I don't want...the dust, the smell, The pine shavings that somehow reach every corner of the house...did I mention the dust and the smell?

Sigh...
Not sure I can help with the dust but Sweet PDZ can help with the smell. A damp towel placed in a strategic place can help with dust supression. The air will pass through but the water will trap the dust in the towel.

Quote: Why do you think it is a White Marans? If it is because the chick is yellow, it may be a Wheaten. Wheaten Ameraucanas hatch bright yellow/gold.
I'll have to switch to Chrome but I will post a pic.
As a hatchling.....

As an adult.........

So far I have 10 ducks and 2 golden cuckoo marans out. One more maran has pipped, another duck is zipping, and one turkey has pipped. I hope some more marans start to hatch as I have a guy who wants to buy 6. I already removed one egg because it looked bad. It's just so hard to tell how they are doing because the shells are so dark.

In other news one of my barred holland hens went broody so I stuck some turkey eggs under her last night. Hopefully she has better luck hatching them out than I do!

My hatching chicks kept me up all night, but I don't mind!

I am up to 21 chicks hatched so far! 3 under the broody BA in the coop and the other 18 in the incubator. 8 BO, 2 EE, 3 OE, 2 BCM, 1 BR & 5 other BO mixes. 8 more pips in the incubator, and 7 more eggs that have not pipped. Haven't checked the other 3 eggs under the broody. Heading into Day 21 this afternoon... I think I would definitely call this a successful hatch so far!
