Okay I'm going to take it out carefully and wrap in warm washcloth then try and take a picture. It's my last chick so hopefully I can get it all better :-( thank u!!NEVER CUT a cord with a sharp object, always pinch those veins or it will bleed out, always blunt, When I deliver pups I either grab the hemostats or dental floss, I have no luck with dental floss on chicks it tends to just cut through all that stuff.
I use my nails and pinch the cord x2 with nails and then carefully pull in both directions and have no bleeding, BUT AGAIN, I SERIOUSLY CANT JUDGE WHAT YOU HAVE HANGING IN THE IMAGES, sorry!
You can also put a light screen over the top of cup to keep chick in place until a solution presents itself. Chicks looks very healthy otherwise! Sorry your computer fried-- glad you have your phone!!Happy Easter!!!
I have one chick connected to the membrane via the cord. It hadn't fully absorbed the yolk last night and it had a little bulge. I wrapped it with it's shell and put it in a cup overnight. This morning it's out and alone in the bator. The cord is drying but the membrane part is still mushy and I'm very worried it's going to pull off and bleed because it tries to walk and gets caught up on it. How can I safely detach or cut it? I tried to search and can't find much. My computer fried this weekend so I'm stuck with looking on my phone. Help please! :-(

You go Girl!!!!HATCH COMPLETE FOR ME
started with 32 eggs
18 eggs were to go into lockdown, last min I pulled on that that was showing too much light in the egg.
So 17 eggs went into lockdown
and ALL 17 eggs hatched!!!
6 Black Copper Marans and
11 Sexlinks
I only hand turn-- and rarely had upside down chicks. Granted I have only JUSt started hatching for THIS year . . . maybe something diferent this year going on.For those that had many pips at wrong end of egg:
Did you manually turn or was this happening with auto turners too?
My hatch was bad this year and I had many malpositioned chicks. I've manually turned for years now but after this am seriously considering getting a turner and was looking for info from those that had same thing happening.
Reading through during hatch it seemed there was many at wrong end. Who knows, maybe something to do with the blood moon for all I know.
Thank you Sally Sunshine and BYC - I had to assist my marans - she pipped early yesterday morning, then could not get the shell away. I reached in a got off the little piece after 8 hours. She started zipping after that but 12 hours or so later only made 1/4 headway. Last night 9ish I zipped the shell for her because her foot was sticking out of the hole! You can see how she was in the first photo. An hour later she could not push out (my theory is that she could not use that foot/leg to push) so I got the rest of the shell off and some membrane. (Second and third photos). At that point I remembered to take pictures! After another hour of pushing she could not get out and she was getting sticky, so I cracked some more shell, put her back in the incubator, and she pushed herself the rest of the way out. (No photo of that, it happened quickly after I put her back in the incubator). I still had to remove the glued-on sticky membrane. I let her rest overnight in the incubator, and this morning was happy to see she is still alive! I think I'll have to wash her but I really wanted to let her recover her strength - she really fought hard to get out and I'm glad I had those articles to read from this group when to help her but not too much help!

GREAT POINT!!!!
THere is a better healing and clotting reaction when the cord tissue is scraped to cut it rather than a clean cut with a scissor. THen hold as in pinch as it clots. I've done lambs and foals the same way.
Don't kill it yet! You never know there is still some time.So far nothing. Out of 32 eggs set, none have hatched, including both shipped and ones from my own backyard. Thanks Brinsea for your crappy incubators. I have never ever had a zero hatch before.
My Brinsea incubators are going to become full of shotgun shells later this afternoon. It is time to open my wallet and buy a real incubator like the Sportsman.
Sorry the eggs have not pipped-- might be early yet. A slightly low temp will increase the time to hatch. So far nothing. Out of 32 eggs set, none have hatched, including both shipped and ones from my own backyard. Thanks Brinsea for your crappy incubators. I have never ever had a zero hatch before.
