Oh my goodness, my cockerel crowed for the first time, then second, then third!  I have never had a rooster.  Now, when will this boy start making fertilized eggs?  He is just over 5 months old is all.  He isn't acting like I've heard roosters act, like sharing food..he's a pig.  He runs off with the treats so the others won't get it.  lol..I think it may be a while yet before he is a real rooster.

It won't be long and he'll start wooing the ladies. We love our Roos. Can't imagine having chickens without them. Our always have an eye to the sky during free-range. They keep our girls safe.

Here is the little HAL cockatoo, (squawkatoo).

And my only two HAL chicken chicks.
This is the Serama from a shipped egg with a saddle air cell.

And this is the Frizzle X Ameracauna. I think this is the softest chick ever! And he/she has small feathers down the legs...

I listed three African grey eggs for the HAL. One is clear, but the other two must be close to hatching. Can't candle very well with the mom sitting on them. The weather plays a part with them. I thought they should have hatched between Saturday and today.. Any day now.....

One of the two HAL Silver pheasants under a broody has draw down today. These guys are a little late also, but again, maybe because of our crazy weather swings.
OMGosh! Too cute!! You must have some kind of set up over there. Living my dream for sure!

What can I do for this little ones vent? It has been like this since it hatched. It came out fast and I had to put it in a cup to absorb it's yolk. Now it just had poop stuck. I gently washed with warm water. It's acting totally fine. Eating and drinking. Of course now I put it back in the brooder and another chick went to peck it's vent. Ugh. Help please :-(

I'd set up a separate brooder till it heals. Just a 60-75 watt drop light in a box will work.

Okay, it is day 24 and time to call it quits on the remaining eggs in my incubator.

My total hatch was 21 chicks out of 35 that made it to day 18. Only 4 out of 14 shipped eggs hatched but 17 out of 21 of my Pita Pinta, PP/Cream Legbar mix, and Langshan eggs hatched. My breed count is 3 Pita Pintas, 11 PP/Cream Legbar mixes, 6 Langshans, and 1 Langshan mix.

Here is an Easter morning pic of some of the chicks:

Ok got my final count Started with 27 shiiped eggs...13 made it to lockdown. 9 hatched...7 are doing good. 1 died with brain exposed (so sad) and 1 is still holding on but not sure if it will make it. 4 were dead in the shell :( they were fully formed. Only one had pipped through air sack. So sad to see the little things dead like that. So I am hoping that I end up with 8 happy healthy babies.

So shipped eggs were not a total loss. $60 for 7 chicks possibly eight. Oh well it was anexperience. Will I hatch shipped eggs again...probably who am I kidding ;)

My back yard mix I started with 15 and 15 went to lock down 13 hatched and are doing good. 2 were dead in shell fully formed :(

So I have 20 chicks doing good and one still in the bator trying to get stronger. I have a great bunch of chicks with different colors so I am pretty pleased. I will post some pic here in a bit.

Both of the special needs chicks that hatched died today.

The silkie/polish wasn't a surprise. Found it dead this morning...surprised it lasted as long as it did.

The other one who kept kicking her legs back and over her head was a surprise, though. She was talking up a storm when I got up this morning. Went to feed her two hours later and she was gone.

At least I have 46 healthy babies, though!!!
