I love snakes - such efficient predators of mice and they're native, unlike cats or the chickens and I for that matter that are invasive.
The snakes can get into the places where the mice hide. I encourage them to hang out here along with all the native reptiles and amphibians. I hate it when my chickens eat frogs and lizards.

My chickens eat anything.... ANYTHING! its disgusting... I wont let them eat frogs, butterflies and other cute things. <3 I don't mind snakes, but if it bites me. Its dead....

snakes certainly startle you when running upon them unexpectedly but they're still a good thing.
