I'm in

This will be my first time hatching eggs. I have no experience and no equipment.

I think I will buy some fertile eggs from a local supplier, hatch some under a broody buff Orpington. I'll hatch the others under a Hovabator 1588 without an egg turner. I have yet to buy the incubator

GQF often sells the Genesis 1588 as a kit with the turner and Quail eggs.

If you go that route, call to order and ask for Coturnix instead of button quail.

Is 56% humidity too high? Just set them this morning. Chicken eggs,.
Watch it over the next 24 hours. 56% is a bit high but not too bad depending on the eggs you are hatching. Dorkings like humidity to be a bit higher but Marans and Penedesencas for example like humidity to be lower, like less than 40%.

Did you weigh them or do you plan on using an air cell chart? Adjust humidity based on development.

Ugh, I need to recalibrate my bator. I have few cot eggs, but I need to throw some mallards in. It's been so long since I last hatched anything. Was it always this hard to make choices?

I didn't weigh them. I've never heard anything about weighing eggs. What that about?

I never candle because I can't see anything when I've tried before. I've been lucky I guess I've never had one to explode on me yet.

I'll just watch the humidity and try to bring it down between tonight and tomorrow.

Good plan!

I go bye air cell development(use a chart) but others use weight loss. This site has a good explanation of how it works.
